Frankly speaking, i wish Ferrari will not go down that route with a 4-dr coupe. Everyone now is doing it, Merc with the CLS, Porsche with the (somewhat ugly) Panamera, and Aston with their Rapide (although quite a looker). This will just ensure Ferrari's 'exclusivity' or whatever you might call it, instead of just being plain 'just another four-door'.
...and then a SUV and a city car and a van and... No thanks. It would kill Ferrari's essence and spirit.
The Quatroporte is just that....the 4 door offering from Ferrari. Honestly, The Lambo has some lines of the Porsche Panamera. There are many things shared between the Porsche/Audi/Lambo/VW/Bentley Group. Audi may not want to head off the Panamera and Maserati segment - so, the group will use Lambo. I went to my local Lambo dealer the other day since a friend of mine said they new 560 gallardo's in stock and they are selling at a discount. I couldnt believe how well made and nice these cars are. The onyl problem, I'm about 5'11'' 225 lbs and I had a bit of a time fitting inside the gallardo coupe. It might be a pleasure if lambo made a car that could actually fit something, including people. I'd surely take a look at it. The 612 is the supercoupe/supertouring segment. The Vanquish, Bentley GT speed/Continental, AMG CL65 segment - even the MB is pushing it. I think that what Ferrari is doing with the 612, on order only is brilliant. Let those that get it, buy one -
That car is hideous. I hope Ferrari NEVER produces a 4 door car EVER. Besides this car is a concept I doubt if Lambo puts it into production.
Thats what i thought was the whole idea of joining up the brands. The Maserati marque can "take" a 4door, even an SUV (whatever happened to the Kubang... that was kind of cool. i guess if it wasnt dead before, it is now). That way Ferrari can still offer that type of product with their engines and engineering whilst keeping their own brand "safe". They have always been adamant about NEVER producing a 4door Ferrari or an SUV, and i dont think that will change. Ferrari, however, never promised to not add to their range of sports cars, hence the California... Seemed like a good win-win scenario. But Fiat decided to bond Maser with Alfa Romeo instead but still keep Ferrari's tech input. Maybe they have plans for all 3 sharing dealership space. Who knows... anyways, i dont think the Ferrari "look" can handle that much of a stretch. But AM did a bang-up job doing so with the Rapide. Lambo, however, didnt hit a homerun with that. Some aspects i like but as a whole.... no. I wonder why they didnt want to go head-to-head with the 612 and do a 2+2 instead of a full 4-door? GT
Ferrari is not interested in producing a 4 door or using a V-10 in the future according to Luca. http://blogs.automobilemag.com/6305100/car-news/ferraris-montezemolo-says-no-four-doors-or-v-10s/index.html From the article: So what does the future hold? When asked what he thought of high-performance four-doors like the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide, and Lamborghini's new Estoque concept, Montezemolo wished his competitors "good luck." He went on to say that as long as he is in charge at Ferrari "we will never do a four-door." Enough said. Maserati covers the market for sporty Italian sedans, as he sees it, while Ferrari will continue to build exotic sports cars that everyone wants but few can have. Scarcity will continue at Ferrari dealers. Indeed, on the day of its world premiere, the California is already sold out for two years. Potentially adding to that problem (for buyers, anyway) are new dealers that have opened in emerging markets with more on the way. And there are no plans to increase production, though Montezemolo did concede that the factory could theoretically put out 8000 cars per year. While the company's 7000 annual customers may not care much about fuel consumption, the company does. It is looking into different options, including the adaptation of Formula One's upcoming kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), to increase efficiency. Montezemolo said the company will not do a V-10 engine. Ferrari is also adding to the One to One personalization service that debuted in Geneva on the 612 Scaglietti. The atelier program will now be offered on the 599GTB and allows customers to individually specify anything on the car, excepting the engine and body.
I wonder what the reasoning for that is. Ferrari has always adopted F1 tech into their cars, why not the v10? Put in into the next gen F430 (with a price increase of course) make it its own segment in the lineup and the California can take up the old "introductory v8" torch. Not that they need it, but some cool marketing surrounding the resultant 8-10-12 production numbers could be created... GT
2 door is the way of the exotic car. For Ferrari to make a 4 door almost defeats the purpose. If they were to make a 4-door god forbid it look anything like the Porsche Panamera. That car almost looks like a station wagon with the truck cut off...albeit with sexier lines.
Id rather see only two doors on a Ferrari BUT if they're planning to make a 4 doors, it has to be/look awesome cuz I am quite disappoint in that Estoque and i love the new Lambo design.
I completely agree with FatPenguin. And jaslally, Ferrari should! ignore the 4dr trend. Ferrari should set trends, not follow them. That 4dr Lambo looks like a Dodge Charger with a Reventon bodykit.
there will not be a 4-door ferrari. end the discussion lol. http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081007/FREE/810079989/1065 as stated by the president of ferrari.
Moved onto a 430 spyder now a 599.I only keep my Ferrari's for year or so. I started the thread to high light the trend towards 4door coupe. Since the 612 is a slow seller it might be a good idea to replace it.
612 is the range topper and trust me Ferrari know exactly what they are doing with that car. It is an ultra exclusive high liuxury Super GT. Who said it was a slow seller....with orders already booked well into the year and its image re-vitalised by the one to one programm. I personally think its the best ferrari in the range...not saying anything about the rest. I agree while its not the ultimate weapon...it is one hell of a car. The 599 is faster, 430 more agile....but 612 most practical...and trust me its quick enough by any standard. Also....not so common, its also Luca di Montezemelo's favorite (CEO Fiat Group) which says quite a bit. As much as I would like to see a 4 door ultra luxury- ultra performance ferrari...i wouldnt loose sleep over it. If they do bbuild it...trust ferrari to do it properly and not try and create a Panmera...they wouldnt just fill the category...they would develop an FERRARI!!! And if they dont...cant wait to see the next 612! Should be a killer!
yes it is. that's why Ferrari won't make a four door as long as they're together with maserati estoque will be in production in 2010. they speeded up presentation of it to show it before porsche will effectively take control of VAG, thus lamborgini as well
