In my 2007 612, when I put the car in reverse gear, the passenger side rear-view mirror tilts downward. I’ve seen this feature on many cars. The problem is that once I put the car back in first gear, that mirror does not return to the same position it was in before it went into reverse. My preference would be to just disable this feature so that the mirror does not move when I put the car in reverse. I’ve been through the entire manual and cannot find any reference to this function of the rear view mirror. Does anyone know how to disable this? In my BMW, all you need to do to disable a similar feature is to move the mirror adjustment selection switch, but that does not work in the 612. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
There is a procedure for resetting the mirrors in the 2010 owners manual. See if it helps. Nothing about the mirror dipping for reverse that I could see. Do not turn the ignition key to position 0 while the rear-view mirrors are being opened or closed. In this case, the mirrors become “unsteady” and to reactivate them you must: • Turn the ignition key to position II; • move control A to the mirror fully closed position (all the way down at 6 o'clock) and then move it back to the mirror open position, before the end-of-travel is reached.
I find setting the seat memory which also sets the mirror memory gives the R tilted mirror much more incentive to return to the original pre dipped position.
