612 solenoid fail open?

    Does someone know if the exhaust solenoids of a 612 are fail open or close? Also, will it make any diference in the exhaust sound (standard exhaust, not sport) to keep them open all the time?

    My mechanic opened the exhaust on my 612. It isn't any louder at full throttle, but has a lot more burble when revs are decreasing. I love it and wouldn't change it back! Mine is an 07 with the sport exhaust.

    that's exactly what I am aiming for (or at least give it a try), thanks.

    My question still is, are the two solenoids and the exhaust valves open without vaccum or are they closed and only open up with increasing vacum, because if they are fail open, then the modification should be very easy by simply detaching the vacum pipes. Ferrari build different systems depending on the model.

    Only problem might be that the catalysators are not heating up fast enough.

    The Maranellos are fail closed and the 599 is fail open, not sure about the 612. Easy to fix regardless. If fail open (check by disconnecting the vacuum line, will open at idle if fail open), just block the vacuum lines to the pneumatic valves. If fail closed, directly connect the line from the vacuum accumulator (that goes to the bypass solenoid) to the T connector going to the individual lines to the tailpipes. Take the short line from the solenoid to the T connector and double it back to the solenoid inlet to prevent groad from getting into the solenoid.
