Yes, you are correct! I brokered this car sn 044 in 2000 to H.P. from Essen/Germany who did the very intensive engine-resto! I drove the car on the Autobahn and was chasing a 911 with it (...but then came a curve...!!)! THe car still has its first paint. Ciao! Walter
I find it amazing that such a significant auto such as the 5000gt in all its forms is not valued considerably higher. With so few made (quite literally for Kings), and performance so great, one can be certain that if this vehicle were a Ferrari it would be worth several million. For years now I have been of the mindset that had Maserati been more reliable and had not essentially lost their entire racing team to bad luck in 1957 and stayed on the course they were beginning to pave so well, the world would be Maserati crazy and not so Ferrari crazy. Maybe I am just too big of a Maserati fan. WHo knows.
The Maserati that was in Arlington VA I think was 006. I do not think it was the Shah of Iran car 002.
Unfortunately I don`t have a photo of #010, the 3rd car made by Touring with 450S-gear-driven engine! Ciao! Walter Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ok here are most of my pictures of various 5000 GTs. The photos aren't very good quality because I took digital pictures of the prints I had. I should scan them sometime... They are from Pebble Beach and the Historics of 2000 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have only this one and it's a friends and very bad photo. I have seen a photo of #010,the car was black 1979. Magnus Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is that the one owned by a member of the Peugeot family? Here I enclose two photos of the 5000 I saw a year ago exaclty at the Manoir de l'automobile in Loheac, waaaaaay out west in Britanny, western France, a fantastic place with 300 cars, 10000 car models, an F1 grid several tracks...well worth the trip. There were a dozen Masers there! Best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes!! Fantastic museum! I have been there 2 or 3 years ago and expected a small local car-museum, but I never expected this! It is a collection owned by Michel Hommel. He has his own car factory (google for Hommel-cars) and also has a racetrack and rallytrack in that village. I will check to see if I have nice pictures of that 5000GT too.
Walter: No I do not have the Vin, his people did open up his Khamsin and Miura for me though. Harry SZ: yes I came preapred but if you did not expect it it must have beem quite a shock! Hommel owns a big, big French automotive press group with a vast protfolio of magazines. He practically owns the city of Loheac as well. It is worth the trip most definitely. best regards, Marc
Hi all, I love these cars. I found this one, from Torino 62 show (I think). Do you guys know which no is it? Looks like the same in post 34? Philippe S2 7987 www.lamborghinimiura.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is a Frua bodied 5000gt 048 on display at Geneva in 1962. That particular car was renumbered at the factory in 1963 chassis number 064. I think that is the one. Correct me if I am wrong
If I remember correctly, that is the car that sat in impound in Egypt from '67-'00 and was then auctioned. It was owned by a member of the royal family at one time and someone or other died and the car got stuck in limbo somehow. Not sure of the whole story but it seems that each and every 5000gt has an equally interesting story behind them.
#046 seems to be for sale on eBay .... just stumbled upon it while looking for a project car: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1962-Maserati-5000GT-Allemano-Restored-Bill-McGrath_W0QQitemZ320311223048QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320311223048&_trkparms=72%3A727%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1308&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
This is a current picture of the Bertone 5000 Gt.. Now with mexico engine and twin headlight and changed taillights. In Spain as from the beginning The Hommel car is number 058 see below. ex spain.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It is my understanding that the Bertone car was re-bodied by Allemano by the factory and is now in the Panini collection in Citinova (Modena) I do not know the chassis number as I sit here typing, but I do have it somewhere. My guess is that this picture is a photoshopped redo of one of the factory file photos. Nice photoshop job including the addition of a license plate. Anyone care to comment? FGM
