In the net there are actually a lot of pictures of 103-058. The Engine is different from the "usual" 5000 GT engines I know (I am not talking about the colour).

It has single ignition only and a complete different distributor drive. It looks more like a QP1 engine equipped with fuel injection.

    What I found was:

    http://www.auction.fr/FR/vente_/v9163_artcurial_briest_poulain_tajan/l1230001_maserati_5000_gt_coupe_allemano_1964.html

If you scroll down, something with an installed marine-engine is mentioned, unfortunately in french, of wich I do not speak a single word.

The idea of a 500 HP Marine engine installed in such a car is great.......

Hopefully, somebody can translate ansd explain to us.

    best regards from Cologne

Jörg,not sure if the car will be on display at Techno Classica in Essen next month.
But it would not wonder me if someone had a standart V8-motor (QP`s / Hhibli etc) installed!

Jörg and I we both investigated the 5000 GT, chassis #058, on display with Christophe Pund in Essen, Germany for this week.

The rear-lights are original. The surrounding design of the panels fit exactly to this different lights. The car also has much differences in the greenhouse-section (rear).

We are just requesting more infos about the non-standart engine. Jörg strongly believes that this is a boat-engine. More on this later .

    Ciao!

Walter and Jorg ( sorry Jorg, no umlaut on my computer )

I have been reading your comments relating to the 5000 GT No 058 and may be able to shed a little light on your observations. I have recently acquired engine No 066, from the last Allemano car and, like the engine fitted to car 058, this is a single distributor 8 plug engine like the V8s used in later models. It also has the same single butterfly intake manifold identical to the one in the 058 car. Hopefully I will be able to attach a photo of this engine, but bear with me, this is my first post ! The engine is needing a full rebuild and again , like 058 is not painted is the usual green of most 5000GT cars.

No 058 was built in April '64 , the next 5000GT to be fitted with the 5 litre engine was 066 in October, the last 2 cars produced thereafter were fitted with 4.7 and 4.2 litre engines. It may be possible that 058 and 066 these were the only 2 cars to be fitted with this modified engine, although I have no evidence of engine types of cars built from late '63.

Reading the French text which accompanies the 058 article, I believe that the last owner/collector thought the car was fitted with a marine engine as it looks almost identical to type 202 which was a marine racing engine ,and shares all the characteristics , inlet manifold, 8 plugs, single distributor etc of the 058 car . Indeed, this was also the same capacity ( 4941 cc ). It may be that the revised layout accounted for the extra power which he believed the car had relative to other 5000GTs that he owned.

    Walter,

I note from a previous thread that you believe 066 may have been used in a 151 car at Le Mans before being fitted to the 5000GT, I would appreciate any information you may have on this.

    Okay..
The engine was with the car when it was sold to Germany.
Was it IN the car also? Or different engine in the car and original engine outside the car

And why would someone sell the original engine and keep the car???
A 5000 GT with its original engine is worth more then a separate 5000GT engine and a car WITHOUT engine.

And even if that isn't the case, engine and car should be and stay together.

Yes as Nigel already pointed out:

If Cleto Grandi says it is a boat engine as this part of the french auction text states then it is true: have had countless conversations with him and he is a great source of information.

    best regards,

    Marc

The original engine was damaged and not installed when the car was sold to Germany.
Why the owner sold the engine a little later seperately is unknown to me. For sure it was a foolish decision but the then-time owner -who purchased the car from Joop Stolze- was/is a very difficult person!

One of the two 5000GT-engines that are on the market today, was stolen from the Factory-display on the Geneva Auto Show in 1999!

    Ciao!
    Walter
