I, for one, love the Opalescent Silver Blue. That was the original color of my car (per the Heritage Cert), and is really lovely. Mine has been repainted red, which is nice on these cars, but that blue gets me every time.

I'm going to see the car tomorrow and take more pictures. Please send along other questions or ideas for me to raise with Dave. Now is a good time for me to consider build or configuration tweaks.

Agree, the hardtop completes the look. Very nice look. Btw, I have an original hardtop with all the chrome trim. My me an offer I can't....
As far as mods go, you could use the longer rear resonator style of the 3.8
Or, use the ansa exhaust tips similar to ferraris, which was done in the day.
Or, could use the turned aluminum interior trim from the 3.8.

I agree that the hardtop looks nice. I have one for my Z8 and it's sort of a pain to deal with. Awkward to handle and a space hog to store despite a cleverly designed stand.

On the e-type hardtop: Is it hard to take on/off? How much do they weigh? How do people typically store them when not on the car?

Hardtop removal is 2 person job. They make hardtop hoists.

You're having a car restored for a lot of $$$. You don't want to end up thinking you painted it the wrong color everytime you use it or even just look at it. Cotswold will take all the curvature out of the E, and its' beauty finds its' source just there. Enhance it rather than kill it. Either opalescent blue will do great with a red interior, but my personal vote would go for the dark.

The tires with any other sidewall than black work nicely with the standard triple-laced wheels, but the shiny flat outer part of the centre-laced rims don't combine well with them. As you say, this is easy enough to photoshop and see what it'll look like.

I am not much into American cars, but that's a very nice looking Caddy you have there. IMO the Caddy was always a brash car, and those wheels look perfectly at home on it.

Btw, I'm sure your 12 y/o has a lot of persuasion-power, but she'll get over it:)

    Choices, choices...

As was suggested, there are many possibilities to mod your car: the aluminium interior trim (it came with several surfaces) looks great in the early cars, but you have to be careful that you don't end up with what looks like a 'bitsa'.

For some real-world advice regarding mods that improve the car without destroying it, have a talk with Blackjag (his user-name on here) who has a gorgeous black OTS that was tickled a little.

Great project! I wish I could do the same to my car!
However, I think a navy blue, or black interior would look nice with the silver blue exterior.
Red will make the car look a bit flashy, and thats one thing a E doesn't need help with.

Additionally, the black cover would compliment the black dash and nicely envelope the red. The blue was prob used cuz a blue fabric top was used. A mistake in my opinion.

Thanks for the perspective on the tonneau and top. My initial thought was that the blue tonneau complimented the blue paint. I will look at black. The tie in with the dash and tires would be nice.

What do you think about the red carpets. Too much red? Better in black?

it is a lot of red. maybe do the vinyl heel pads in black to break it up?
i cant tell from the pix, but the vinyl(hardura?) on the rear bulkhead should be black originally? also, the vinyl(hardura?) by the hood latch should be black originally? that will tone down the red.

Nothing of note. The interior is ready to ship and should arrive next week for local assembly.

I've asked for black, blue and tan covertible top samples and that sounds like it won't be a problem, although I'm at least 6 weeks away from having a painted and mostly assembled car to model them against.

Bas interiors still the best? They were when I was looking 15 yrs ago.
Interior work being done onsite at daves? I may pop in and have a look.

Dave said that they had been using sng barrat but for the last few they've gone to BAS. The interior work will be done by a shop in the South Bay - not sure who.
