I am sorry if this has been covered already, I did search old post's and did not come up with anything. I have a '05 F430 6spd manual with +10,000 miles on it. I have an annnoying buzz/rattle coming from my shifter/linkage? The sound is present in nearly every gear expect 6th. Any idea's? I have seen guys talking about going to Hill racing and picking up a better quailty bushing? is that where I should start? Thanks guys!
My 430's shifter had a buzz at ~2500 rpm, heard mostly in 4th through 6th gears. The dealer's mechanic unbolted the shift cable linkage (at the back, where it connects to the transmission) and installed rubber or vinyl washers (I forget which) before reconnecting it. I believe he put the washers on either side of the spherical rod end. That did it...no more buzz. It must dampen normal transmission vibration/noise just enough so it doesn't travel up the shift cable and into the shifter assembly. Normal cars have rubber bushings on their shift cable ends which dampen vibration greatly, but reduce feel. The 430's spherical rod end is a near direct connection. Hope this helps.
