I think they're confusing this non-event with a pic I took of a giant Death-Star lobbing a few pounds off Star Jones before she comes crashing back to Earth. Hey, she's a big girl, she can take it.

There was an article about this in one of the supermarket tabloids. The same issue said the Mars landers had taken pictures of cats on Mars. I love tabloids chewing gum for your brain. LOL

I believe the rock you speak of is infinitely smaller that the US and has (more like) a 100% chance of hitting your friends' pipe! :)

1 in a trillion what? nano-seconds, years,..... In any event, we are overdue for a moderate sized "surprise"; where moderate is worse than WW2 but not as bad as wiping out all life on earth.

The last big event was Tungusta early in the previous century, this thing flattened several thousand square miles of forest, and the fires in siberia could be seen in london for weeks. The last BIG event was Chuxilub and ended up wiping out 90% of all life forms on the planet.

Could you be thinking of "Revelations III" The Final Course? It's a script by David Allen Rigaby. Page 60.

Article in 2004 April Maxim if you're interested. Details the possible events if an impact would occur. Thecarreaper is right, they are talking about asteroid SL-61.7 How much truth is in this you ask? I'd venture not much.

On the bright side, we can finally stop hearing politicians shamelessly drone on about September 11th when they're furthering their campaign goals.

Should something reasonably large hit us, it's not going to be pretty. Gets less prettier the bigger it is (and worse for a Comet vs asteroid. Comet is moving MUCH faster.)
