I have a 74 246 gts that was originally bianco polo white with red int. It was repainted nicely to red and the interior was changed to tan, I have considered repainting it to its original color even though white is not my favorite color on Ferraris.

What shape is the paint in now?
If it is in need of a repaint then I might think about it.
But spending $10k to paint it the original color and change the interior back is a waste of cash if it will still only be worth what it is now.
    But hey, it's your coin.

Was this the Barbara Streisand Dino that Alex sold?

White is not flattering to the body lines and will never get you any more points in a concours than any other color.

i would personally leave it alone unless a paint job was required. even if you decide to repaint it, i would paint it in a color that you like. i would not devalue a dino becuase it has a non-original paint color (like some porsche people do). however, a white dino would have to find a buyer that liked white. this car sounds similar to the barbara steisand car. it was origianally white/red and is now red/tan. what is the serial number of your car?

i am not a great fan of white dino's, however, i have to admit in the ferrari dino vhs that has been around for years, it has a white dino that looks very nice.

I was extremely surprised to hear from Bob Smith that a vintage Ferrari is not deducted for having non-original paint as leaving the factory, only if it has a color that wasn't available then.

With all the nitpicking at concours and looking at stuff like screw heads, IMHO I think a Ferrari to be 100% needs to be as it left the factory. So either way for concours or just personal enjoyment, you can go with any color though.

I vote for originality, at least where vintage cars are concerned. Why succomb to the fascination with Rosso Corsa/resale red? If/when the car needs painting, return it to its original state. Of course, if the car had originally been Rosso Dino or some other ugly color, all bets are off!

i have two dinos that are both currently red. neither was red from the factory. if i ever need to repaint them, i will most likely not paint them red. i can't say that i will return them to their original colors, but i would paint them a factory dino color.

I personally love white cars, but word on the street is that in general, white F-cars are "sale proof".

if white cars were sale proof, we wouldn't have any white ferrari's. they definitely have a very limited audience.

My Dino left the factory white, with red carpet and blue vinyl seats.

Now it's red/black/tan daytona interior. I wouldn't consider putting it back to original, which would certainly NOT make it more saleable.

    NOT TO MENTION FUGLY.

So, do what you want, color probably won't hurt resale value, if that's a concern. Paint it whatever Ferrari period correct color you like.

I do think white will make it a harder sell down the line, but not adversely effect the price by more than a few thousand dollars.

Since you are asking for opinions, I think one of the greatest funs of classic car restoration is choosing of the color scheme. Because, at the end, that is what showcases all the hard work and expense you have invested in the car.

Frankly, not all the production Ferraris came in the ideal color scheme. Sometime you had a nice exterior color and sometimes you had a tasteful interior color, but not always the perfect match.

Personally, maintaining the original color scheme is not so important. If I were restoring a car I would let myself (or someone whose taste I approved) get really creative.

    John,

...so true, my friend... Although never in person, I've seen some color combos in Forza or on dealers' websites that were "questionable" at best. Even those that aren't questionable, but are more "non-traditional" (i.e., the copper Daytona spyder at Silicon Valley Auto Group a couple months back), are constant reminders that Red/Tan wasn't always the end-all, be-all for Ferraris...

The paint is in very nice condition right now, I was at Blackhorse Motors in LA, Ca. and they had 4 red/tan dinos in for service, 1 chairs and flares owned by the girl on the Vegas show. What do you think is the most flattering color scheme that compliments the beautiful body lines.

Mine was factory white and that was its only flaw. Never met anyone who really liked the color. Everyone loved the lines.

Had left front banged up pretty badly and decided to paint the whole thing while I was at it and insurance co. was helping to pay the bills. First Dino i ever saw was a dark blue metalic GTS. That was about 1975 and was, and is, the prettiest car I have ever seen. Color choice was easy. I drive my Dino daily so ability to match was a concern. Had seen Mustangs in a dark blue that was acceptable. Got the number from the local Ford dealer and anyone can match it. Ten years later it still looks pretty good and there have been lots of touch ups and one major bang up.

Pick a color you like and drive it. Let your heirs worry about winning concours.

If the paint is nice now, then I propose you spend the $10,000 it'll cost you to repaint it on something else. There are plenty of toys and tools that can be had for that kind of money . . .

. . . or 1 set of unusable concours vintage Ferrari tools in a vintage tool roll. LOL!

I really liked the color of the gold 330 GTC that came along with us on this drive.

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80260

But, if it were my car I would switch the original black interior to something more exotic, like dark green leather with light tan carpets. However, that would not be an original scheme.

Could not agree more with painting it your favorite color! I just bought a concours 246 GTS here in the UK. It's Red, but was originally metallic light blue. Red is growing on me, but I agree with some other posters that Blu Scuro or a similar dark metallic blue is totally perfect for this car. Either way, I drive it for my pleasure, not for the onlookers. You guys in the US should drive more and care about concours less!

Slightly off/topic: it amazes me that there is so much snobbery around the Dino. Is it a Ferrari? Does not matter. Is it underpowered? Not for most roads and straight line speed is irrelevant to real drivers. Is the engine in the wrong place? Absolutely not...superb balance that set the standard for all subsequent mid engined Ferraris. Values WILL rise bigtime. In all...It's a FANTASTIC car. I have owned 8 classics (Porsche, XKE etc.) and my Dino will see me to my grave. Cheers from England :)

    Darren,

Tony looks perfect in white. I call mine David Niven (in his prime).

Pictures like this remind me why I love this car so much.

White looks very good on some cars and makes them very unique as there are not that many with that color. I don't believe I have ever seen a white Dino, so why not keep it and maintain a very special identity.

The metallic colors from the Dino series have some very flattering shades.

My 308GTB is actually the light blue metallic Dino shade.....even the purple one in Europe recently was kind of cool!

Try to find the color sample chips, they are out there.......I agree any color you like would be fine...only the Heritage Certificate will know!!!
