i would like to install an original radio in my 74 Dino, can anyone show me a picture of what style go's in the car. thank you
Hello Anthony, was your Dino original equipped with a radio instaled by the factory, than you need a Voxon radio. Dealerships have instaled "Becker" radios and other stuff. If you want to instal a Becker radio, you need to buy the export version ("Becker universal sets") because of the Dino dashboard. Regards Matthias http://www.koenigs-klassik.de/_Becker_/_becker_.html
yes it is a original factory installed car, but when it restored before i purchased it they did not put it back in. thank you
Voxon only came with european cars, the usa cars all came without radio and were installed by the dealers, most up north had blaupunkt and the others had becker europa-2 i dont think in judging it would matter since they came without radios. I prefer the becker . I think the important thing is to put in a "period"radio, they all sound lousy anyway so just enjoy the engine sound!!
I do own a Ferrari Dino original delivered to Canada fittet with a Voxon radio by the factory. So it was possible to order that option for North America too. regards Matthias
Than it should be a Voxon radio but to be sure Ferrari Classiche should be able to confirm this. (until 1972 it was always Voxon radios fitted by the factory, not 100% sure about cars delivered in 1974) Regards Matthias
I have installed a europa stereo 11 they look the part will get some pictures for you, as well as cut out dimensions,I have to work this weekend but will organise them as soon as I can,I also picked up an original aerial as well.
look up "dino radio-any info?" its an older thread that has more info. Again usa cars came with out radio, i called a mechanic who worked at ferrari during the 70s and told me that voxon was for europe and usa came with-out radio. In the end its up to you to install what you feel is correct.
Well i have a letter from ferrari classiche telling me the way my car came out of the factory and it is a u.s.a spec car. And it tells me that it came out of the factory with a radio. anthony
same with my L-serie Dino delivered to Canada in early 1971, Ferrari confirmed a Voxon radio and it`s still fitted, see picture. Did they confirm a Voxon radio for your 1974 too or was it a Becker radio or didn`t they confirm what radio was fitted original? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree. My -73 coupe has the Becker Mexico radio and it has been in the car a long time - probably since it was new. I have seen Becker Mexico in many other Dinos as well. Photos of the Becker Mexico along with Becker Grand Prix and the Voxson can be found on the Daytona Registry Authenticity page (very useful page, even for Dino owners): http://www.daytonaregistry.com/originality/index.html BTW, do I see right, is the Voxson an 8-track player??! Wow, talk about historical artifacts!
Do any of you folks have experience dealing with Becker USA via beckerautosound.com? Seems like they have a good deal to offer here - and the idea of an Aux input for iPod is very appealing.
The Blaupunkt has a record button, and a microphone wired into the gloveblox on a coiled cord. I think the first owner was a doctor who liked to record notes! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have had some dealings with Becker USA when I was searching for a period radio for my Jaguar E-type. While Becker USA knows their business and sells expertly restored period radios, they are as original, meaning 3 watts per channel. Since my car is a roadster, and has very poor original speaker placement, I went a slightly different route. I wanted my car to look original, so I did retain the original speaker placement. For the radio, I found a very nice condition Becker Europa on eBay for $75. Didn't know if it worked or not (didn't really care) I sent it to http://www.turnswitch.com/ for a conversion to modern internals, 45 watts per channel and an iPod connection. Installed, the unit looks perfectly stock, but now you can actually hear music with the top down and engine running. I will note that the radio looked original even before the installation as all the Becker controls and original chassis are used in the conversion. The only difference is a new wiring harness coming from the rear of the Becker chassis.
mrony, i believe those seats are referred to as "le mans" style/option. they were also available on daytonas. the door panel should also be red w/ black straps. ed
