I remember a trip to Singapore zoo and they had a King Cobra.. what a monster.. never seen anything that big before.

FWIW my hobby is running over venomous snakes any time I see one on the road.. this country is riddled with them.. they're a menace out here where I live.

I nearly lost a pet to one just last week but $500 vet bill later it lived.

You should come down here some time to collect or photograph.. you won't see as many anywhere else in the world!

When I lived in Florida we had an Indigo that lived under our little house. We had no problem with rattlers or rats as long as he was there but when he left we had all sorts of them. A beautiful snake and harmless...except to the vermin. We named him Blue Boy.

I hate snakes, but those are some beautiful pictures. Eels, I don't mind. I scuba dive, and have them in a tank. I think it is because of the eyes. Snake eyes don't move, eels do.

Eels are fish. They have to see what's coming to them. Snakes go after their meal and they have a tongue to guide them. I just sort'a made that up.

I got an email from Lou yesterday that they were launching at 0630 this morning but as I saw , they didn't get off until 0715. I have been following their flight to Narita on Flightaware. 5 hours into the flight at 1215 they were almost half way and had 2525 miles yet to go. I figure that they will land at 1630 PST. Lou is going to be one tired puppy tonight since he had to arise at 0300 this morning , a 14 hour stint at 40,000 feet , 439 knots..

I figured that would be the case but it is still a long day and a lot of miles. Incredible.

JA14KZ is now in Narita. 10 hrs 30 mins. A few pics.....

    1: 747 line
2: Our crew and support team, I'm on the right. It's cool they let you do stuff like this!
3: The new delivery center is very nice.
4: Cargo pilots aren't used to a jetway....
5: iPhone shot from the walkaround. Seatlle was pretty cold this morning!

Took off around 7:15. Reached FL400 around 7:30 as we were empty. I was in the crew bunk asleep by 7:45. Woke around 10:45.

The people at Boeing are the best. They sure build a sweet flying plane!

Well, at least it is "non-normal". Though I guess that isn't the same as un-normal.

    :D

This continues to be one of the most interesting threads here. The pictures, as they say, are worth a thousand words. Especially since they are "real life". Thanks Lou!

The reverser system. The translation ring slides aft? forward? Bob, a little help here! Anyways, it pulls on the connectors and pulls the blocker doors open, diverting the fan air out the sides and slightly forward. The connectors are the white looking pieces. You can see the blocker doors in the closed position.

It's important to note that only the fan air is "reversed". The core airflow is still going out the tailpipe and producing thrust.

Changing a tail strobe light isn't a one man job.

An interesting story from a worker at Boeing on my last trip. The 747's APU exhaust is straight out the tail, like a lot of planes. The 777 used a "screwdriver" tail cone, being flat and skinny. The APU exhaust is out the side. I'm not sure which side. The worker told me that it was a more efficient design. But Boeing was forced to go back to a "standard" straight out the tail APU exhaust on the 787 for noise requirements. Apparently, the APU can't be louder on one side on the airplane than the other. At least that's what I was told.

Did not know that... thought tailpipe exhaust was reversed as well.

    Thanks.

Correct, Lou, there was a noise problem that put the pipe out the back back to a pipe out the back . And I wrote that before my evening scotch.

On a post on the previous page, I showed the T/Rs. Does the translation ring (I think that's what it's called) move forward or aft...opening the reverser doors?

If my old mind serves me, the translating ring moves aft, while the blocker doors are rotated. Then the exhaust gases flow out of the space opened by the translating ring. The fan thrust is much higher than the exhaust thrust from the gas producer so it is logical to use that for reverse thrust. And this is after my evening scotch. So, I must have made it up again.

Thanks. While it had wings and a fuselage, the dimensions were all wrong. Ended up being an A380 I think. Go figure!

If the dimensions are wrong it must have been an A380...Aliens would not create anything as ugly as that...;)
