Vmu tests are always impressive; I remember seeing video of the 777 doing likewise. Thanks for the link!

Yes, thanks for the link. I've always loved the 747... it's so elegant.

Hey that's the plane parked at Boeing field next to the 787s!! I was wondering what that was for when I was back in Seattle over Christmas...

Great video! Yeah - the 747 has always been my fave too. I have a poster of
a vintage 747 cockpit on the wall over my desk.... would love to ride in the cockpit
of one sometime (hint hint hint hint)

    :):):)

There is more than one in flight testing right now. Everything is fast track on this A/P. It's going to be a good performer, better than it's earlier cousins by a good margin.

While this is a nice aircraft, I'm still waiting for the F-747 Stealth.

The F747 Stealth has been flying for quite a while. It follows Air Force One everywhere it goes. You just can't see it.

Thanks for the link. I fly -400's at Nippon Cargo (NCA). We're one on the launch customers for the -8...although I hear now that we'll be leasing our initial aircraft to another operator. I'm a bit bummed. I was looking forward to the new plane, even though the cockpit is almost identical to the 400. I've been flying 747's for 17 years now. I've flown the 100,200, and 400. A lot of people ask me what it's like to fly the 747. Funny thing, it's the only jet I've ever flown! So it's hard to for me to make a comparison.....

With the scalloped trailing edge on the engine nacells I guess it would not be appropriate to paint them in a flame job?

Just seems like a natural place considering the metal work and all.

If I just had the money...

Really cool watching something that big float over the runway so slow in the ground effect tests.

It's like the stealth ship they made here in SF Bay. It works so well you look for the spot on the screen where you can't see ANYTHING and thats it?

The scallops are for noise reduction and cool looking to boot. 787 has them too.

I think the passengers would fail to see the humor in the flames though.

Take a look at some of the other videos and you can see the new compound-blended wing tips they are using now in lieu of the winglets normally seen on the -400s.

If I may add to Spasso's correct explanation. The engineering guys call these items " Chevrons". Their purpose is to feed cool air into the exhaust stream to mix with it and to form a cuff around the noisy flow.

I hope so too. I believe it will be the longest commercial airliner. Currently it's the A340-600. But I believe the A380 will have a longer wingspan.

Basically its like any other plane weve ever flown, after awhile your just flying a cockpit. All that metal under and behind you that you never see from your seat kinda all seems the same.

I hardly ever hear of anyone who has flown the original model of the 747. I worked on Number One and many after it. Getting the first example put together and out of the door was an excruciating experience but satisfying. It left a trail of human wreckage behind, too. I'm attempting to write a book about all that I have seen and experienced in my 84 years and I hope to cover the 747 and the " Incredibles" who designed and built it. There are very few Incredibles left now. I have 13000 words put down that covers the period from 1929 to 1944 and I am just starting to write about my going into the air force so I hope the Good Lord lets me get to the end before I get to mine. The 747 is one of the worlds greatest airplanes and the -8 will be better yet when Boeing gets things squared away.

Well, I screwed that one up. I was answering LouB747 comments about flying the 747 but I suppose that everybody will read it anyway.
