Sorry if this has been covered before, but I just spent an hour going through the archives to no avail. The question is: When removing the engine, is it best to remove the rear exhaust manifold, or leave it attached and roll the engine engine out by lifting the forward bank higher than the rear bank? I spent 4 hours and finally was able to remove the manifold nuts from the studs only to find out that there is not sufficent clearance around the differential to remove the manifold from the engine bay. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. If this topic has already been covered, please direct me to the thread.

I found that it was easier to remove both headers when I pulled my engine out. From memory we also removed the bell hosing but I cant remember for sure.I do remember leaving it off when we refitted the engine and putting it on with the engine back in.I think its also easier if you have a self leveler fitted to the engine lifter.Hope this helps

Take the bell housing off, remove the rear header , need to take the engine stablizer, bush bar and the two long stude out of the rear bank to get the header out the top. Remove the front header when you have the engine up about 50% in th engine bay.

See attacehd photos for best way to lift the engine in and out, if you do it like I have it clears perfect.

Need to remove rear engine mounts from transmission casing but can leave the front ones in place

Thanks for the quick responses Tom and Maurice. The pictures are very helpful. I was going to leave the bell housing in place, but I will remove it before pulling the engine. Padding the body is also an excellent idea.

Don't forget a strong board over the rear window as per my picture

You can use this to lower the engine into place while getting max room.

There are no replacement windows for the rear on the GT 4 available any more I believe!
