I saw it in person recently. It's being done at a VERY competent workshop. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures as it wasn't appropriate at the time I saw the car. (as is common knowledge, that many individuals wish to keep their possesions private) I'm pretty certain the workshop is documenting the process, so if the owner ever wanted it to go public there would be plenty of pictures. The engine is already installed, the interior was in somewhat of a minor mess but I saw the WIP of mounting the F1-shifters to the original steering column. I doubt I will ever see the car again, it probably won't be used more than a few times. And again, the engine and gearbox is from a 430C and not a regular 430 or 430 Scud.
So with the F1 tranny setup, move the drivers seat to the middle and squeeze in to 2 sides seats like the McLaren. Ahh to dream...
Who knows, might happen. The owner is in the position that he can pay for it. Believe it was a coupe, yes. But they have put the entire sub-frame from a Challenge into it. The reason for using a Challenge engine vs. a road car engine is the simpler traction control systems.
Looks like Mondial prices are coming back, the RM auction model listed earlier in this thread was sold at Mechem in 2012 in Monterey for around $45K. But then again it sold in 2006/2007 for $80K after being purchased for somewhere around 2003 for $52K. The ups and downs of owning a Ferrari.
Thanks for the info roofguy - are you saying the car's history (The RM Auction one) was: 2003 - 52K 2006/200 - 80K 2012 - 45K 2013 - 85K ? Thanks
Yes, I believe that was Dave's from Disco Bay that Larry had in his show room in Burlingame. It ran through at Monterey in 2012 right after a T cab that was owned by David Carradine. Might have been $43K at Monterey, its hard to remember after a day of looking at so many cars and drinking beer. If you look back in the Nor-Cal forums, you might find some other info on it.
Alright, someone posted a picture of the Mondial with the Challenge engine I was talking about. Here it is. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Read the thread. It has the engine and gearbox from the 430 Challenge, I saw the car being built during a visit to DK about a month ago.
Wow, did they have to use trunk space at all for the new engine install? I'd imagine it's an awesome car with that extra power.
The sub frame has been replaced with the entire engine mount modified for the car. I don't know if there has been any compromise in trunk space. Owner is most likely going to use the car very rarely so it isn't really an issue if there has been any reductiion.
My Corvette/Porche buddy keeps up on some of this stuff with pod-casts. Whatever those are. There is some sort of subcurrent that anything with Ferrari on it will become in demand. This has already happened with old Porches, I will not hold my breath on this one. However, the Mondial was originally at least, if not more expensive then the two seater. And is by far the more usable and classic elegant look. Not that it much matters to me. I still own the 1965 Corvair Monza Convertible I found in 1979. It has not lost value. But it has not gained any either. And its value is just a few thousand dollars.
With commission just shy of $150,000 https://www.mecum.com/lots/PA0722-529331/1991-ferrari-mondial-t-cabriolet/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
<sarcasm>Piece of crap cars that will never amount to anything, worst car in the world, junk, yadda yadda ...</sarcasm> In all seriousness, congrats to both buyer and seller.
Link? Thanks Thank you, thought you were referring to the Yellow T coupe with the 430/F1 setup. Well sold still
