My 1976 fiberglass U.S. 308 has a couple of brackets, one on each side, welded to the bracket which holds the heater blower. There is one hole in it, with a screw just sitting in the hole. Am I missing something on both sides? Does anyone know what this is for? It is obviously factory installed. Here is a pic of the passenger side.

There should be a splash shield in front of the fan opening to keep rain water from being sucked in. Yours is missing. Sorry but I have no photo of what it looks like.

Perhaps to attach the air duct to the blower? see TAV 121 (308 GTB 1976), part 1 and 31
This air duct has been then suppressed (date?); it's no more present on 77 edition.

There's a Technical Bulletin that removes the duct, it was throwing road dirt up all the way into the dashboard....

No big deal, an the dust.....but you add a few crickets or maybe a frog, and it was starting to freak people out.....
