My '76 308 GTB has a brass drain plug incorporating a magnet--doubtless a non-original part. I would like to replace it with a similar new one but I cannot seem to find one since most of our sponsors carry the stock (#10275011) part. Does anyone here know where I can locate the aftermarket high quality brass magnetic one?
    Thank you

Transmission drain plugs for Ferrari have magnets and are same size as engine drain plugs.
Engine drain plugs do not include magnets because there is no need. Metallic debris in engines is not magnetic and if you have magnetic
debris in engine oil its too late to save. What is needed at that point is an overhaul. Lack of magnet was not an oversight.

That 104280 part that miked posted is the gearbox drain plug for many, many F models, and should work for you as an engine oil drain plug (if there's room for the extra vertical height). MCP has a much better price if you are in Europe -- you should add at least a continental location to your FChat Profile. The 246 SPC illustration indicates that F did use a magnetic drain plug there originally, but there's a note that they reduced the quantity to 1 after SN such-and-such so they must have decided, like Brian indicated, that it just wasn't worth it in the engine. Can't really fault a conservative Engineer for originally specifying a magnetic engine oil drain plug as the gears between the crankshaft and cam drive sprockets are just like the gears in the gearbox (and the metal sprockets/chains are not metal debris-free) -- so would generate the same small metal fines like they do in the gearbox (but they'd be passed thru the oil filter if picked up so not the same situation as the gearbox).
