That there looks like a LOT of hours in prep
You can stare at that grey primer until you are blue in the face and think "man, I've got every imperfection" until the colors goes on then you swear in 14 different languages as you see things that just can't be seen in primer Or, maybe it's just my eyes getting worst Looking good though
Sweet! This is very inspiring. I have a quarter size rust spot outside my right rear wheel well. Can this be prepped nowadays with anti rust stuff and painted or is metal replacement necessary for a small spot?
Was the rocker completely bowed in the first pic or is that just an illusion? I know mine were pretty well dented underneath but I don't think it affected the lower line that much.
For that small a spot the repair itself should be pretty easy. Replacing the metal is the only real way to do it. POR-15 or something similar will only stop it from advancing and making the hole bigger. A good stop-gap if you plan on fixing it later. But that's a pretty easily accessible spot too. All of this is of course just my humble opinion.
The rockers were cheap aftermarket replacements that didn't fit and interfered with the bottom of the doors but they did look a little beat up too which can only be from installation since the car hasn't had wheels on it in 7 years.
Test coat to make sure the body is perfect. Almost back to what it was when it first arrived at my place. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cant wait to see this beauty after all that tape and paper are removed and the body is rubbed to a glass like finish ! Beautiful work. I really admire all the metal work.
Hi, I am really surprised to read this thread as apparently, I have a yellow twin in Singapore in similar condition and state of rebuilding! Its a 77/78 RHD dry sump, and I took over the project from a friend who started rebuilding it 10yrs ago but never get to complete it! All the best to the restoration ! I hope mine will be as successful! Cheers!
Going to let it cure this week and bake it a couple of times before considering the final coat then black. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was showing these updated pics last week to the Lee, Mr Reese's son who was there the day I took the original pics of this car back in 81. Lee and I are the same age. He was 13 then too. When I told him it was in the painting stages, before I pulled out my phone, he said, "I hope they kept it yellow" He is almost as teary eyed as I am looking at the transformation.
I think he means the black portions of the car (like lower and belt line) which are usually painted after the color.
Yes, the're just teasing us with this car. Not enough progress pictures. Come on Vince and Paul makes us drool. Get some pics.
Just a few finishing touches, some silver as well. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
