I'm not sure what to search on, but there was as thread discussing it when it was previously listed on ebay; I think someone on the board checked it out.

    Regards,

    Art S.

It's not #38671, the rust bucket discussed here. I searched, but haven't found any threads alluding to this one, which is why I asked. I figured someone here would know this car.

Reserve not met, and the seller didn't get the ser. # to me until after the auction closed. Brilliant.
Maybe next time (which is what I sent him, as well).
    Says it's #23999.
No info on whether it has EPA Cert. just that it passed AZ emissions test. Does one this old still need EPA cert.?
If all checks out, I'll probably pick this one up.

Seems to be an Ebay thing.

We don't have emissions testing anymore in Fla. (6+ yrs.) because most cars on the road are late model & weren't finding enough cars out of limits to warrant testing.
Check w/your state about emissions testing exemption, many put 25-30 yr. age to be exempt.
I have never been asked for DOT/EPA papers from state DOT's or emission centers, I think this whole thing is a racket. Maybe Cal., N.Y., Connecticut, & N.J. might be the only ones, I'd be real curious of others feedback.

Kurt, if you are looking for a carbed black/tan 400a and haven't yet bought, then maybe we should talk, especially if emissions are non-issue in FLA.
you can see some pics of my car at my website www.granturismo.ca in the completed projects area. i'm toying with idea of letting it go in favour of a 365 GT4 i just added... but i really never thought of doing it before. i've driven, maintained and loved it for all 7 years and 75 ooo KM's.
mechanically, it is current and strong, with a performance shift kit in the tranny. all the need to do things have been done at my shop, on my dime. the website pics tell only part of the story but i've got service history going back to new, including it's complete restoration at the dealer in '91.
cosmetically it is very solid and it is actually at the painters right now having the front end stone chips addressed before a winter cut and polish.
the US dollar is advantageous for both of us right now. let me know if you'd like to discuss further.

Thanks, Brett. Took a peek, couldn't tell too much except by the description. Mechanically, sounds promising, and I'm in TX, so emissions aren't a problem. The importation, however, would be a new experience for me. Sending you a PM.
As for the AZ 400, and possibly yours as well, the EPA cert was/is a potential "Legally in the country" issue I'll know more about tomorrow - calling Dick Merritt.

BTW - the seller sent me another email to tell me that “Car didn’t make reserve and is still for sale!!” Well, duh. Given his BIN price last month, it probably wasn’t even close to the reserve, even though he lowered it.

.....and still no mention of the original paint checking, or the forward edge of the roof rusting.

Brett, Dave, (any others with such massive experience with these cars?), how serious is this to repair? My paint guy told me it's a "remove the windshield" fiasco. I was considering a color change anyway, especially after the seller (a "dealer" selling for his "friend") mentioned the abundant checking on much of the horizontal body panels (odd how you can't tell in the pics, huh?). If the local dealer hadn't been familiar with the car, it would be off my list. Maybe I should just wait for my choice of that most unlikely combination to pop up.......

Anyway, here's that roof pic that has me wondering:
I'm assuming that the "burled wood" instrument surrounds are just a finish?:

How serious is it? I guess heart surgery is nothing too serious for a heart surgeon, but please make sure you can secure replacement glass before you pull the SOB out. I'm not exactly an expert, but what you're looking at probably gets all the more interesting under the window "sealing" surface (where water retention sometime occurs), just a guess. Again, if you have a "surgeon" on hand, it's then it's only metal fabrication, otherwise proceed with caution. BTW I've been looking for glass (rear) for nearly a year, it's been just great!

I was really wondering if it was necessary to pull the windshield, or if this was something that could be addressed by just trim (and maybe localized sealant removal). I assumed the worst, and just had the whole car priced. If all of the glass has to come out, I just know something will get dropped on a corner, just prior to reinstallation. Then, we'll both be looking for glass for the next decade - and probably the same piece.
