Fairly new to the forum as I'm just starting my search for a 308. Hoping to get some experienced feedback. Came across a 78 308GTS for sale at Segal Motors in Concord with 10Kmiles. Could it really be worth the $55K asking price? I may have to re-think my budget if so. Originally was thinking about a QV with a budget of $35K'ish and a few $'s set aside for surprises. Noticed some of the early carbs tended to go for a bit more but didn't think the difference was that extreme. I like the idea of a carb model but maybe my budget would only get me a GTSi 2 valve.

    Thoughts appreciated.

It could be worth 55k. You would have to get a PPI done. Prices of these cars vary as much as breast sizes of college coeds.
Post a link to the add.

First of all, welcome! Feel free to fill out your profile so we know a little more about you.
If you are talking about the yellow 308 it is a low mileage, clean car. Of course, a PPI is a must. Also, bear in mind the carb'd cars are more desirable than the injected cars, typically, and prices are reflecting this. That said, any 308 model is great!

There is also a difference in the '76 -'77 to the '78-'79, when catalysts were added to North American version. (USA and Canada the same)

    Welcome aboard !

Hoe you enjoy the read, and feel free to come out to meets !

In reference to your question, usually there is a reason for a price difference. When searching these cars, the question you need to ask yourself....can I get the 35grand car to the 55grand car level ? The reality , you won't. Many in the Ferrari world looking for the best deal around, and for the most part....that deal is very similar to disneyland....it's pretty much make believe.

Look at as many cars as you can, and within time you will find the right opportunity when it presents itself. Think in terms of Ferrari...not ford focus....take your time, and save for the best car that fits for you.

As for the seagal car...it is a great car, for great value. It has all the cookeis and well documented. It will still need a few bucks to get sorted as it been a garage queen...but they all need some work if you wish to drive on a regular weekend basis...just keep in mind, these are still 30+ yr old cars.

    Good luck !

LOL that's a cool way of putting it ...to continue the analogy, some are well padded/pushed up & not necessarily all that they first appear to be :D

Talked at lenght with Ed from Segal about that 308 and it was actually gold originally and with that remaining original chocolate leather it would be one hell of a rare Ferrari . The previous owner painted it yellow and sadly its a very nice paint job so to redo now in gold would simply be an excersize in cash dumping . that said it was a very nice 308 !!

Hey Gary, I saw the car in person - very nice car indeed. The chocolate brown interior is very interesting, and actually, I kinda like it - but not as much as I like your Espada's interior. The car was completely refreshed, and there was some serious money spent on it. IMHO $55K is worth the asking price, but colour changes are something that I'm not a big fan of, but that yellow is kinda sweet.

They have an '85 QV GTS for $45.6, nice car as well. Fresh leathers on the seats, smelled right :) That would be my car, and I'm tempted!

Welcome, If you are around FoO, they received a red 1984 308GTS QV, with 28,900k on it, and a asking price $45,000. Well worth a look.

BTW, if $35,000 is your budget sadly that won't get you much at all.

Exactly, at $35k you almost can guarantee you'll need to spend min $5k+\- on something or other. Or you buy a good one and spend the dough.
