Does anyone know where I can get replacement exhaust tips for a 78' 308? I have searched but could not find...I found complete exhaust systems but not the tips. Also, can someone tell me the make & model of the original exhaust system? The parts manual has it in Italian and it translates to "stock-pot" via google.

What's wrong with your current tips? Or...are you having an aftermarket system fabbed up, and you want OEM tips to keep it looking original from the outside?

    Aaron,

My left most tip just...well...fell off. It had corroded. The base system seems ok (for original) just the tip so far. I think 4 new ones would look hot.

    Vincent,

Thanks for the tip. I will check it out.

    Anyone else?

Try ANSA or I will soon be removing two systems to trash that's 8 tips!

I'm not sure mine are stock actually one is an old ANSA the second one may be stock type....carreaper just pulled a thermo muffler and Dr. Barry '308GTB' has one as well...

    good luck.

ANSAs end in a bevel..the OEM are more squared at the end, less bevel...

Bubba remembers! Yes, I have my car's OEM thermal reactor muffler stored in my garage. It will follow my car around in case a future owner wants to be 100% original.

You should consider changing your exhaust system. If the tips are falling off, who knows what's doing inside. There are several threads on aftermarket systems. I have an older ANSA Sport system on my GTB and am pleased with it.

    (So will you, Bubba!)

Thanks for all the good advice. Yes, I should check the rest of the exhaust but I didn't want to go that far. Big Tex, if you are tossing your tips, I am interested if you want to PM me.

I saw that ANSA does not have a reference to the 308 GTS '78 on their site but I did find the tips. There was a set that looked close but then again JC Whitney, etc, etc. have lots of tips to choose from.

Can you use 2 1/4" OD stainless heat treated pipe and cut it at the right bevel? Basically, create this part to spec. The tip I have has no features other than the bevel on a tube. Anyone try this?

I did not see original tips from ANSA so I made my own. I purchased 2 feet of T304 stainless tubing from Burns Stainless on line. It had a 2.25” OD with a 0.049” wall thickness. It was about $13 per foot. The existing tips were about 4.5” from base to the long side of the tip and the angle of the bevel looked to be about 15 degrees. The tubing ID by itself was slightly small for the OD of the stub coming out of the muffler. Since the old tip used to be about 1.5” on the stub, a 1.5” slit was cut in the new tip base, running the length of the pipe facing the opposite tip so it could not be seen. The tip was hand sanded with fine grit in the length to give a brushed look. The tip was slid on with a rubber mallet and a piece of wood. The slit allows the pipe to expand the few thousandths needed to grab onto the muffler stub. I don’t think it will move, but you never know.

The exhaust had no visible corrosion, just the tips. It looked like these were plated because there was some delamination along with the corrosion. My guess is chrome plated steel. .

They look good but you didn't attach them at all? I wouldn't trust them to stay on there without at least a couple tack welds or a screw. You never know I guess but I'd hate to see one pop of while driving.

    Jdubbya,

I hear you. You are the second person to suggest this so I will do something. I was worried about the screw and interfering somhow with the double wall muffler stub but I bet it is negligable. I don't have access to a welder - any Colorado Fchatters want to tack weld four tips? The tips really went on tight but if the stainless heats and takes a set, the spring force may dissapated and I will be tossing tips at the neighbors. Can't have that.

    Thanks,

    Rjay

    Looks nice!

I have not pulled either of my systems, (getting ready for Franco's Party!) but will have some soon!

I can't wait Dr. Barry and I know my neighbors will be thrilled! Gotta figure out the hangers......

I think I was a shoe-in for "Loudest system on a Street Ferrari" as I rolled into Highland Village Shopping Center yesterday......

As long as only one of your GTBs is coming down the road. Now if Valeria and you both go out for a drive at the same time......
