searching through these threads have not found a smoking gun-need some imput guys. After storing my 78 308 for the winter (with a full tank of gas with Stabil added) have been having trouble getting her started ever since taking her out this Spring. I put a new battery in this spring but maybe there's no juice left. here are the symptoms: When i put key in ignition and turn to the first start position I can hear the fuel pump so I know that's working......-I'll wait about a minute before attempting to turn her over. It'll start "whirring' as the starter motor is engaged and then the whirring begins to die. Trying a second or third time-no "whirring'-just a click-like the starter motor isn't turning. Is it possible that the Napa battery that I bought a few months ago is already dead? Or is this a ethanol clogging issue? Any thoughts? Thanks
Sounds like a typical battery going south. You may have a short somewhere that has cause the new battery to drain off. I would either charge or test the battery and if it doesn't hold a charge then get a new one. If the car starts and runs with a new fully charged battery then that is one problem fixed. The next would be to see if something is causing the battery to loose its charge. Good luck
On some cars, leaving the key in the ignition switch can run battery down quicker than normal. The seat belt and remove key reminder share circuitry. The remove key reminder should only draw current when the key is in the lock and a door is open. When improperly modified to eliminate the annoying seat belt buzzer noise, leaving the key in will cause an additional small drain. Best modification is to leave the seat belt relay out. _________________________ http://www.ferrari308gtbi.com/
