That little chrome bezel around the door lock pull at the top rear of the door panels, those of you that re did your door panel leather, what did you do, remove and reuse the old grommet, or get new ones someplace, or do something else?

Since I have a lathe and lots of stainless bar stock, I considered spinning up a couple new ones out of 400 series and polishing them and swaging them onto the panels.

    Thanks,
    Doug

Well it's 2024, did anyone find a source for these door lock grommets? I pulled one of my door panels apart yesterday. I have the leather and glue. Will order foam today. But, this grommet doesn't appear to be used on another more common car. This would have been quick to knock out back when I had lath access. Guess I'll try to bend it back into shape and if that doesn't work, I will farm it out to a machine shop.

On a side note, the gel coat on the side panels is very orange(well, at least after 2hrs of cleaning the old glue off with some nasty chemicals). You guys with red cars are lucky. When you get a paint chip on the rear wheel well, it's also this color underneath. With a red car you barely notice. On a blue car, people think I repainted a red car, blue.

Well, I used a M8 Stainless Steel Rivnut. Mcmaster-Carr PN# 97467A693. Sliced the rear into strips, which get bent over on the underside of the panel. Worked great.

Nice example of lateral thinking...and a nice result in the car.
