Last weekend we had our 7th FCD Ferrari Dino meeting here in Germany. 32 Ferrari Dinos took part (one from Belgium and one from Switzerland, all other cars from all over Germany).
Meeting point was Rüdesheim on the Rhine, just about in the middle of Germany. It felt a bit more like meeting in Italy, because the weather was so hot, 40 °C (about 100 °F) in the shade. Attached a few pictures.
If anybody is interested to join us next year, feel free to contact me.
Next meeting: 7th until 10th of July 2011 "Black Forest", close to the French border nearby Straßbourg.

    Regards Matthias

    Dinos by night.
Dinos parked at "Kloster Eberbach" (Many of the interiors of the movie "The name of the rose" with Sean Connery (1986) were shot at Eberbach Abbey, Germany).
    Dinos following the river Rhine.

Sounds like a great event, Matthias. Congratulations on getting 32 Dinos to the meeting! That is quite an accomplishment.
Attempts to organize a similar, but of course much smaller, meeting of Dino owners in Sweden have apparently failed, I have been told. The reason was said to be too few cars, spread over a large geographical area, and very few of them actually driven. I am happy to hear that you have had such success with the meeting in Germany.

The picture of the Dinos in a variety of colors lined up in front of Kloster Eberach is great! Nice to see them on the road too. A real "family" gathering with several Dino 308GT4 obviously also attending. Too bad about the heat, though. It was hot even here in Sweden, about 30 degrees C that weekend, but fortunately it is now back down to a more normal 24 - 26 degrees. 40 degrees is pretty much unbearable in Europe. Better luck with the temperature next year!

If I have my Dino (or another Dino) in Sweden next year, perhaps I will drive down to Germany and join the meeting as a visitor. It sounds very tempting.

    Lars

Ok, we started on Friday evening with a barbecue at our hotel "Jagdschloss Niederwald" nearby Rüdesheim on the Rhine. People came with their Ferrari Dinos from all over Germany and one team from Belgium and one from Switzerland. At this anual meeting only Ferrari Dinos are allowed to participate. On Saturday morning we started an hours drive to the famous Rock Loreley, on the eastern bank of the Rhine near St. Goarshausen. You have a great view down onto the river. From there it took us another 1 1/2 hours ride with the Dinos to Abbey Eberbach. The movie "The name of the rose" with Sean Connery were shot at Eberbach Abbey in 1986. We parked our Dinos in the abbey, had some drinks and finger food and did a one hour sightseeing tour through the abbey. From Abbey Eberbach we drove our Dinos to Rüdeshein on the Rhine and parked close to the city centre. We took the chair lift from Rüdesheim up to the Niederwald monument, a 10 minute ride over the vineyards and great views. The rest of the afternoon was free time to discover Rüdesheim on the Rhine or relaxing at the hotel. At the evening we had a six-course meal at Jagdschloss Niederwald. During our dinner Germany managed to win against Uruguay (Alvaro your guys did really great in the world cup) and raised our already good atmosphere. Sunday morming we took our Dinos for another nice drive through the little mountains and finally arrived at "Schloss Johannisberg". They own the oldest Riesling domaine of the world. We had a vine tasting down in their vine cellar. We ended our meeting at Schloss Johannisberg with having lunch on the terrace enjoying the great view down to the river Rhine.
As I said everybody who wants to join us with his Dino next year is more than welcome.
    :)
    Regards Matthias

In 2006 we managed to take 50 Ferrari Dinos down to Italy. We visited the factory and Fiorano on June the 30th, the 50th anniversery of the death of Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari. The plan to organize our anual Ferrari Dino meeting again in Italy is for the year 2013, our 10th anniversery.

    Thanks Matthias,
perhaps you will post your events calender for any of us that might be loitering in the area. I'm sure the you will cast a wider net as Dino owners from other countries become more aware of your activities.

Interesting to note, that at Eberbach Abbey, my parking lot has already been marked in 1603 by carving my name in stone.

    That's what I'm talkin' about!
Matthias, thanks for the pictures and the narrative. 'enjoyed the comments and additional photos offered by Volkmar, Götz, Abi and Adrian. As for the unspoken others who were present with their cars, thank you for being there and for future posts.
It would be a lot of fun, and helpful for planning similar excursions, if we could know some of the trials and tribulations of such an outing, especially in light of the hot weather. How did those without A/C manage their body temps...and how did all manage their Dinos' temps? Any mechanical issues that were not heat-related?
    At any rate,
    Cheers,
    Coop
