It is a little late, but was months in the planning and execution. For those of you - most of you - that were neither invited nor regularly drive the Palmetto into Miami, you are probably unaware of the MINI "Motorby" talking billboard. It is a billboard with a carton "talk" bubble that displays various messages. When an owner with an RFID key fob drives by the message changes to a personalized message. For example, mine has said things like "MAXI's looking good today, Scott" and "Keep on carving those turns, Scott." Well many, many moons ago I contacted MINI to see if I could do a customized message - it was during a brief period where Marle and I had put our engagement on hold. After a while I gave up and just gave Marle the ring (again) a diferent way. Well, a week and a half ago, MINI contacted me and agreed to do it. So, prior to the SSF Dinner on the 2nd we will be planning a little detour (Marle will not know, as she will think we are just on our way to the dinner) If anyone wants to join us by the sign, it looks like there will be some press coverage (as MINI is very excited about this little event) and then we can convoy down the Palmetto to the dinner. I will have final details and times set up, shortly. REMEMBER, it is a secret!!!! Scottie
As long as I am not leaving on the 30th I am very much there. If not I will try my best to fly back Wednesday or early Thursday. .m
MINI is going to shoot footage and is trying to arrange some TV appearances to take advantage of the publicity. There may very likely be TV crews there and MINI's advertising consultants will be shooting B footage in case the interviews materialize. Scottie
Scottie - Be sure to provide details on where to be at what time; I'll have to bail out of the office early in order to make it "pre-dinner", but I know it'll be worth it!
The billboard is located on the Palmetto, southbound side - at about 53rd street. Right next to the Pepsi cola distributor. I am going scouting down there tomorrow to see where people can gather and will post details. Scottie
The billboard is on the Southbound side of the Palmetto (826) (aka, Crawl-metto, Pal-ghetto, etc...) just north of the 36th street exit at the Pepsi building. I passed it yesterday.
Ouch... not likely I can get underway early enough from the office to make it there and to Aventura for the dinner too; Looks like I'll be at Anthony's in time, but that's probably the best I can do.
Just north of the sign there is a commercial project that is being developed. It is off of 79th Ave - just south of 52nd street. This weekend, the gate was broken and open - I hope it still is. The addresses are 5121, 5141, 5161 79th ave, There is a large banner hanging on the side of the building closest to the road advertising to contact Marlene Gonzales PA for information about preconstruction sales. You can get there by exiting at the 52nd street exit and going west one short block, then south on 79th or by exiting at 36th / Doral and going one block west before heading North on 79th. From the far side, closest to the highway, there is a clear view of the billboard. I expect to be there between 6 and 6:15. NBC will probably be there too. They are interviewing me at lunchtime and will be trying to get footage of the crowd and the sign when it happens. Scottie
We will be there, may run a little late. Depends on the traffic heading East on the Palmetto. TV station will be stationed on the side of the road for the event. Should be cool. May end up on Good Morning America if this interview goes well. Scottie
So, you want us behind the fence, by the warehouses......not by the side of the road under the sign??? I think we should all just pull off the road and stand under the sign..............
I scouted the area and - particularly in light of Ron's accident - I don't think that the side of the road is very safe. It is a narrow shoulder. The parking lot give an excellent view of the sign. It looks like channel 6 - NBC Miami - will be doing a live shot from there too. (Sorry Gaby, can only hope THAT doesn;t get me in trouble!) Scottie
