    Does anyone know the number of Calis built thus far? I recently read that around 8000 have been built, with 30% going to the U.S. That sounds high to me, but maybe it's true? So, if there are approximately 2400 cars in the U.S., how many of those owners are on this forum? I've seen threads that have 7000 views or more....

    Goof ball post aside it is an interesting question. There were over 7,000 Testerosas built which were hand welded so 8,000 Calis mostly computer assembled does not seem unlikely. Mine was a July build and it was outside of the 200 bad camshaft recall for 2012.

    Thanks for posting those stats, Martin.

    I'm not surprised by the California's numbers, nor am I dismayed. No one should be buying a California thinking it will be a collectors car some day. Although it might, if enough people daily drive their Californias and wear them out or destroy them, that should not be the main reason to get one.

    Rather, as many have pointed out already in so many other threads, the reason to get a California is to enjoy the car -- which has quite high performance limits, and yet is comfortable and practical -- on as much a near daily basis as possible. In that light, the California shines above most any other Ferrari. Sure, it doesn't have the likely potential to fetch its purchase price or some multiple of it at a high end collectors auction several decades from now, but so what? (And btw, Camry's annual production is about 5 MILLION cars, hardly comparable to production numbers in the thousands, though I get the point of the jab at the Cali's production numbers).

    BTW also, in light of the California's market mission, it should come better equipped for that role with things such as cruise control, Homelink, and heated and cooled, memory electric seating and a few other things standard. This will help keep the resale value of the car up as a whole, as there will be fewer "less desirable" Californias on the pre-owned market.

    While I think the California is in a class by itself, let's not kid ourselves that any number of very nice GTs can be had by those who can afford one (and often for less money). No doubt there are many people who, for example, would choose a well-equipped NEW Mercedes SL or Jag XKR over a used California that lacked cruise, etc. There are other reasons for this, but Aston Martins are also very much bespoke cars, and many have horrible resale values in part because their first owners chose colors and accessory options poorly (or with unique taste).

    I'm very happy to see the California selling so well and pulling in the cash for Ferrari. Enables them to make the cars I really like and desire to buy, such as the 599 GTO, Enzo, the F12, and future supercars.

    Let's compare total production of the 360 vs 430 vs Cali

    360 coupes and spiders around 16,000 total

    F430 Probably around the same for coupes and spiders-17,000 cars Maybe a little more even

    California numbers will actually be less given 2 years more production- around 13-14,000 cars (8000 over first 3 years )

    So the Cali will probably have a smaller production run compared to the 360 and F430.

    But this a success as it is a brand new model which had no following. On the other hand, 308 owners bought 328s and then 348s and then 355s and then 360 430s and 458s
