Hi Looking for the right color code so I can order the correct color to match my cars paint. Just doing some touch up any one have any ideas? Its Yellow with black interior. Also was a Single stage type paint used or was it a Base clear type thing? Appears to be a Single stage to me Thanks
Thank you Were did you get that info? Also another question Was Glasurit the original paint mfg for when it was painted originally? I ask because I am wondering why the paint has Cracked all over the car over the years even though its always been garaged. Most Paint mfg guaranty there paints against paint defects if applied with only there system properly. There's no way to get any one to do the warranty work on the car this many years latter I am sure but perhaps the original mfg would some how supply the paint if a good argument was made? a waste of time I'm sure but its a thought.
Hi Dennis, unfortunately the paint quality from Ferrari has NEVER been very good, and you will NEVER get anyone to pay for a paint that is 25 years old. It is cracking due to sun and elements over the years. Best thing is to have the car repainted and enjoy it. Wade
I wouldn't figure I would although BASF does have a warranty program Ferrari would be the only ones they would warranty it to. On the other hand I am calling all over the place trying to find that paint wich now Glasurit color people say is a 102 available in Basf 558929 in Gasurit 22 line BUT always a BUT no one has it or the Toners too make it around me. I am working with Finishmasters and BASF now trying to locate some. They say they will call me back
When I do a repaint I go with PPG or Dupont, unless my customer INSISTS on Glasurit, The last time I checked I think it had to come out of Germany of something like that. Wade
Wesco Auto Body supply (http://www.wescopbe.com/) has Glasurit paint. The last time I was in there, I saw lots of Glasurit propaganda on the walls. Looking at their website, it looks like Glasurit is a BASF company? Have a look at the BASF website http://www.basfrefinish.com/
BASF found me a dealer in Minnesota that can mix me up a Quart $140 plus shipping. I can buy the rest of the stuff for it here local If I was doing a complete on it I would go Base/Clear but I just want to fix some stuff so I want to just try to match it.
From my records, the paint for 1980-1983 was an enamel byGlidden-Salchi Milan, Italy with the code of Fer 102. Just take one of the headlight covers off and take it to a paint store and have it matched. Normally there is not an addition charge for this service, if you want to pay a little more have the scanned paint re-tinted manually for a better match. Cheers KenL
Wow now we have two diffrent mfg's as what was supplide I wonder wich is the correct one? Gliddon or Glasurit
Read that with care... its one more opinion.... Glidden Salchi was used by Ferrari until 1979; my own car has still this decal on the bottom of the read lid. I also own some color scheme samples. These I just have are from 1979, 1981, 1983 ansd 1985. Seems they changed these samples all two years. And for your car - a 1981 one - ONLY GLASURIT is thre right producer, when you want to have the genuine one. Those gyus are right: the genuine one is not allways the best one... So, take your decision Cheers from Germany
I would second this gentleman's opinion, I have had clients insist on Glas & I always end up either refusing the job or talking them around to D/P. We use DuPont & have done for many, many years.
Thanks guys I appreciate your opinions! alsaautomotive I use Dupont usually because that what my Jobber has I like it just fine but every other Painter I talk too hates it says its too thin. What problems do you see with the Glass?
