i'm so excited the have the 81 gtsi back i can't tell you. the electromotive ignition has made a big difference - i even blew the doors off a vintage chevette this week. seriously it's noticeably faster. after almost a year of storage i decided the now very ratty looking loose weave 70's italian high style fabric has got to go. i've been inspired by all the threads on total interior restorations. so the question is: if you were going to redo the t top and the rear deck what kind of material would you use? my seats are black with red piping, the carpet is black. i'm thinking newer fabric, but interested in what choices are available. regards, jon s.

I would go with the original tweed fabric and just Scotchguard it or something to prevent stains.

I like the original look - very classy and timeless, IMO.

Definitly leather - there is an unbelieveable amount of crap that comes into the car just through normal use with the top off. You only realise how much when you have leather back there that can be easily cleaned - I seem to end up cleaning mine every 5-700 miles or so - i.e . 2 or 3 times a year. Any kind of fabric will ultimately look grubby no matter what you treat it with IMO.

Where do you find the original? From what I have seen, it basically does not exist. If anyone knows otherwise please let us know.

I bought the original 80-82 material for my 84 QV back in 2002 when I restored the interior from Re-Originals. Even if you do find some, it will most likely be in bad shape. The weave upper part will separate from the foam backing. It is very delicate and the years have attacked even the stock still sitting on a shelf somewhere.

Try Re-Originals and go from there. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

Yeah, that was the last bit.... It's all gone now. I foudn some material that is really close. I was kind of uptight about using it because it wasn't exact but have since noticed other 308s having been redone using that material and it looks fine. I am going with that stuff...

One of my B pillars could also do with a recover and I notice that eurospares have the side panel I need for GBP £95, not a whole lot more than buying a piece of cloth except that buying the cloth I guess I would have enough to recover both pillars (assuming it is the one that Italian Car Parts are selling for $120 a meter).
