I have a 1981 308 GTSi that is haveing speedometer problems and F-chatters
    have suggested replacing the sender.
I removed the sender this morning and it is NOT 11697.
The vin # indicates my car was built in 1980.
It still has the 85mph speedo.
Has anybody else with the 85mph speedo have the old carb sender?
I have searched the site and believe the correct part VEGLIA # 681041, Ferrari #s 106324, 124146.
At $80 I would have swapped parts at $190 I want to test the parts (speedo and sender).
Are there any other tricks for the speedo other than the file and screwdriver
one. The speedometer registers speed but bounces high and low, the file and screwdriver would do the same- so I wouldn't know anymore.
    Can the sender be repaired?

If this has been covered b4, point me in direction.

I have never seen anyone fix a sender...they are cheap enough to just replace..I have replaced it on each Ferrari I have owned (okay, not the 328GTS, but was replaced before I bought it). They go with great regularity...it is cheaper than fixing the speedometer, so replace it first...if it is not it, you have just performed some preventive maintenance, since it WILL go eventually. Call T.Rutland's or Daniel at Ricambi if you are unsure which is the correct one for your year. BTW, $80 is a deal, they are more like $125 for most models these days.

B4 I ordered a sender, I cleanded the sender's plug and the reseated the spade connecters into the plug from the speedometer and reinstalled it.
On my lift there were no problems in reverse or 1st.
Just got back from my road test 50 mile loop with varying speeds and I am happy to report it WORKS.
I could not believe the speedometer coould be so messed up by the sender.
