Hello, I'm looking to buy my first Ferrari and am looking to purchase an 812 SF in the UK. I am looking for a non-GPF filter car, so 2018-2019. I only drive my cars on the street, no track days. I wonder if you guys have any advice on what spec items I should look out for (or avoid). I recognize many things are down to personal preference. From looking at some buyer's guides for the 812 SF, I came across the following in terms of advice:

    Definitely get:
    1. suspension lift
    2. carbon fiber steering wheel with LEDs
    3. (since I'm short) either electric seats or if sports seats then get the height adjuster

    Nice to have:
    1. upgraded wheels (I like the racing alloys)
    2. reversing camera
    3. more carbon fiber, the better, but personally I certainly don't need every option ticked.

    Things to be mindful of:
    1. the brighter color leather strips on top of the dashboard may reflect in the windshield (?)
    2. racing harnesses look cool, but strictly for street driving I may be better off with regular seat belts since they allow more movement.

What do you guys think? Anything you would definitely want or not want on the car and why?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I think you have it pretty figured out...now go find the car you like the best.

I'd add to make sure you get service records and look them over. If buying from a Ferrari dealer view the service records on the service departments computer and negotiate in an extended warranty and new battery like an Interstate not the Ferrari branded battery. If the car is a 2018 or 19 check the tire date code because regardless of miles it's time for new tires.

Excellent points on service records, warranty, battery and tires. Thanks

I think you may want to add the front/rear cameras. The front of this car is quite long and would help parking. I also wanted the passenger screen. Its fun for the passengers and adds a little to the uniqueness of the car. A car that has PPF is also a nice bonus. If it does not have PPF, factor that in your budget. Good luck!

I have an 812 GTS and I def wish I had that front camera for parking. It is NOT easy to gauge the curb or parking blocks, but man is that camera ugly and an eye sore. I might actually prefer a scuff here and there.....

    1. It may be different in the UK, but I believe not all of the 2020 coupe models are GPF
    2. Make sure the rear glass and brake reservoir cap recalls have been completed
    3. Check if the oil solenoid plate on top of the intake manifold has been replaced. This plate may not be perfectly flat and is susceptible to leaks. Mine leaked after replacing the gasket twice, the plate had to be replaced after it was found to not be flat
    4. Replace the OEM battery immediately with something aftermarket
    5. Suspension lifter isn't a 100% must, but strongly recommended. If you plan to lower it, you will 100% need the lifter.
    6. If you get the twisted forged wheels, make sure they aren't on backwards. They are side specific, it's pretty obvious when you look at the wheels to see they are on backwards.
    7. Be mindful of the exterior carbon options, the front splitters are easy to scrape and hit on parking curbs. The diffuser isn't as difficult to scrape, but also can easily hit parking curbs if you aren't paying attention. Both are expensive to replace.
    8. I don't have the front camera, and I've gotten used to parking the car. The front camera is pretty ugly on the car. Granted I have parked my 812 a lot since I drive it a lot, and will generally try to back in when parking.
    9. The 812 is probably one of the greatest cars ever built. I've driven mine over 30k miles, and pretty much daily drive the car. It is FANTASTIC even on the streets. The 812 "ruins" the experience in other cars in my opinion, it is that good.

Great list. The only item I would add is that you’ll probably want to add wheel spacers. The factory placement is crap.
