Listening to videos you can definitely tell the high pitch is muffled with the GPF, so want to have mine removed when the GTS arrives. I love the stock sound of the pre-GPF 812 , so ideal exhaust would be pre-GPF 812 cats with Capristo/Forza flap remote. I understand GPF is part of ECU however there exists OBD modules on Capristo and Novitec's 812 GTS section that say they clear catalyst error codes. However they don't mention anything about GPF related errors and to further complicate things Novitec offers both GPF and non-GPF parts numbers for their straight pipe/sport cats. So not clear if those units would have GPF installed or are GPF-free and meant for cars delivered with GPF. So two questions: Does anyone know if connection points for the 812 cats changed when they introduced GPF cats? Ie could I just install GPF free 812 cats? Do we know if either Novitec or Captristo OBD modules will allow use of GPF free cats?
Hi, I've researched this in detail and successfully converted my GTS from GPF to sports cats. I can confirm it sounds great and gets back the high pitch of the SF (and beyond...) To answer your questions: - no you can't just put the 812 SF cats on your GTS, they changed the fitting points. I don't know the details of how they are different but I was told by my installer they would not fit. Instead, I had sports cats made for my GTS (200 cell cats; replaces GPF too). - the Novi module cancels warning lights related to GPF and also cancels the regeneration cycle of the GPF. In theory, this would allow you to use GPF free cats but as mentioned I don't think they fit (at least not the ones from 812 SF) If I were you I'd get some 200 cell cats (no GPF) made (e.g. Kline, Brooke Race Exhausts) and buy the Novi module. Sounds great. If that's too loud for you, you could get them to add higher cell cats instead (600? 800? I don't know what the stock ones are) without the GPF. But seems pointless to me - go big or go home Hope that helps PS my car Karl
Awesome, great news! That sound is glorious! So you went with novitec back box, novitec module and a kline 200 cell cat?
Correct, except the 200 cell cats made by Brooke Race exhaust in the Uk. I think Kline is similarly good price / quality. trust me - you will not be disappointed if you make this mod. That scream at the top of the rev range with the roof down is something else!! I would also add an x pipe (higher pitch) plus the valve controller for the complete package!
Hi Karl, Love what you did with your 812 GTS there. I have also recently purchased & installed a x-pipe & rear section from Brooke Race Exhaust. Now I am considering either the 200 Cell Cats or Decats. Can I just check whether you have any check light issues? Or did you install anything to remove the checklights? As I understand that removing the GPF, you will need to re-programme the Ecu or something. Hope you can advise me on this! Thanks, Justin
In terms of 200 cell cat or de-cat, be aware that decat is VERY loud, especially on start up. I have 200 cell cats, and even that is so loud when it starts that the whole car park will be looking at you. De-cat is worse, and also illegal (will likely fail an MoT). I see no reason to go that far. Doing with 200 cell cats OR de-cat will likely cause check engine lights to come on, so you need a module for the OBD port. As far as I know, Novitec are the only ones that make these. Just plugs into the port in drivers footwell. No need to touch the ECU (which I would not do). BTW I have driven my 812 GTS with the above mods for over a year almost 9k miles, ZERO issues or warning lights. Hope that helps Karl
Hi, I am speccing my GTS shortly, did you tell your dealer what you were doing to maintain relationship/warranty etc? Or do you take the line that if something happens they have to prove that is the cause? Thanks Dan
I didn't tell them or ask permission. These types of mods are fairly common and most dealers are OK with it, but it depends on your relationship with the dealer, and how sensitive they are to modifications in general. If there was a warranty claim, it would also depend what went wrong - if it's the roof mechanism, for example, hard to argue the exhaust mods are to blame! I had ongoing issues with my GPS/tracker after buying the car new and the dealer replaced it several times without cost to me (after exhaust modification was made; they didn't comment on it) I would put it like this - if you're the type to worry excessively about potential loss of warranty claim, best leave it as stock. But in my experience, modern Ferrari are pretty reliable and if there ever was a warranty claim I'm pretty confident it would be covered (unless of course related to the exhaust). The vast improvement in the driving experience makes it worth it, in my mind. One final thought - if you leave the cats & GPF as stock (that is, only replace the mid section for a X pipe, and replace rear boxes) the risk of losing warranty claim is further diminished.... but you won't get the full monty experience, either
