I eliminated the following 3 options from my upcoming GTS spec when the initial price tag seemed obscenely high. Now I’m thinking of adding one of them back. Question number 1: which one has the most visual impact? Question number 2: which one will most likely have a positive return on investment when it comes time to sell?

    A) triple layer paint, about $30k USD
    B) painted shields, about $14k
    C) carbon front splitter, side skirts, rear bumper surrounds, about $25k for all three total

PS: I already know which one I’m going to do; I’m just curious what others think

I think B and C are critical, but more for ownership experience than resale value. I am indifferent to resale value. Always have been. As far as paint goes, I don’t think you need to spend $30,000 to accomplish a beautiful spec.

Visually, the carbon won’t stand out that much. The paint shields are much larger, but I don’t think anyone outside of ferrari aficionados is going to know the difference. The triple layer pants are stunning, but you can certainly have a beautiful car without it.

Resale, my guess is what boosts the MSRP the most. That would be the triple layer paint.

If it were me, I’d be going with the triple layer paint if I had to pick from those 3. Mostly because I am not a fan of shields, and I think carbon is not a good fit on the front engine GT cars. Plus, with carbon, if you drive your car and end up needing to replace any of the pieces (front splitter), they are like 3x the price of the plastic ones.

I 100% agree with your above points. I’d rather have the carbon on the inside, on pieces I touch, like the steering wheel, the central bridge, and the doorhandles. I’ve been lusting over Rosso Fuoco, but I initially thought Fiorano would be more fiscally responsible ($13k USD). Now that the time to lock in is getting closer, I think I’m going to splurge on the Fuoco

C is my first choice of them all.

The car with all of the plastic surroundings makes it look inferior in quality. The carbon pops, and blends with the painted surfaces.

Make sure to do the rear diffuser, and the front grille insert. If not, it will look like one is trying to get around the carbon optioning.

Option B- is when you have done C, and potentially A, and are so far into it the build, that it finishes the car at the ultimate level of personalization.

Option A- Looks awesome, only after option C is completed, and if its a car that you plan on keeping in its entirety.

    C,
B (stunning on the 812, so well suited to the look),
A (darker colors better suit the maze of lines in the roof when closed)

    100% keep option A. Ditch options b and c

Park two cars beside each other, one with 25k in carbon and the other with a 30k triple layer paint, you won't even notice the one with free paint is there. Paint is the single most important option on the car, everything else comes second

I would go with Option A and Option B.

The carbon on the front doesn’t matter to me.

Would specifically want a car with no exterior carbon down by the ground. Too many rocks, and chipped carbon looks horrible. Plus I don't want to spend 20k plus all the time replacing it.

As you can see we are all over the place.
Option B is the least expensive and so will depreciate the least.
A is a waste for me and many buyers- I prefer the darker colors anyway- but you won’t recoup the cost on resale
C looks good up close but at 20 yards is invisible and has no functional benefit and is probably not going to age as well as these are super GTs not Aventadors or McLarens. Had it on my SF and not on my GTS and don’t miss or notice it at all

To put it a bit blunt. You are purchasing a Ferrari, and you are considering skimping on the paint due to price? Imagine going out to your car every day realizing it's the wrong colour. All that grief just to save a bit? If you can afford the car you can also afford the colour you want. Are the tri layers worth it? I think so as these new cars with a lot of shapes lends themselves well to the tri and four layer paints.

Painted shields work well on the 812. They are large and need a large surface - the 812 has that.

If you are unsure about exterior CF exterior trim, there's also the option to have it painted gloss black

I agree with you that on a nearly half million dollar car, one should not skimp on his/her preferred color. However, I wouldn’t consider a $13,000 historical color, such as Rosso Fiorano “skimping.” And there are other beautiful colors that are even cheaper. But I do agree that if my heart is set on Fuoco, I shouldn’t let the price tag deter me.

There have been enough arguments against exterior carbon, both in this thread and elsewhere, that I feel very comfortable forgoing those options.

    I have specc’d my GTS with Sanu Silver, a $38K 4-layer glowing silver-white...so I guess I’m screwed! :)
Because it is more of a GT car and silver I didn’t do any CF anywhere on the car. I even did leather steering wheel with LEDs.

I was in this situation a year ago and I picked the carbon fiber all around for my GTS this time.

For my 2020 SF I did not do exterior carbon and I wasn't pleased with the look of the standard trim pieces.

I have the GTS now I am glad I chose the carbon

I did the leather wrapped steering LED steering wheel on my SF and it was very cohesive with my interior which didn’t have any CF. You will love it.

I would get it all for goodness sake, how often are you going to spec a car especially one like this. If you are thinking of all these and don't opt for them later on down the line you will regret it, time is short you have the money so spend it and enjoy your beautiful 812GTS!

i appreciate your opinion, and all of the opinions shared on this thread. I visited the dealer this weekend to check out options in person for myself.

The painted shields looked impressive and proportional on the Monza in the showroom, but I thought they looked a bit too big on the GTS, so I’ll be going with standard shields.

As far as paint is concerned, I was able a to see a Rosso Fiorano Roma, and I loved the color! But when I walked 100 feet further and saw a GTS in Fuoco, I was smitten. Triple layer, here I come!

As for the exterior carbon, the best justification for me to eliminate it (and its cost), is that from 25 feet away, you can’t tell the difference.
