Has anyone here installed Novitec or Capristo sport cats while keeping the stock back boxes? My dealer is recommending this setup, and I’d appreciate any input or insight from those who have tried it.
I’ve put a fair few miles on it this weekend, I’ve been on my own so no videos yet but I’ll get there. I have had one CEL that took a minute or so to clear, straight after filling up with fuel, not sure if that was relevant. I’ve done 100 or so miles since without issue. I’m a convert, this is what this car should sound like. It’s magical. Above 6k rpm it’s just wonderful. All the YouTube videos don’t do it justice, it’s way better in real life. I’ll even put up with an occasional CEL if i have to.
Understood. Keeps us posted. For some people, CEL is a big problem due to once a year or once every two year emission testing via OBDII port. That basically means reverting the exhaust to stock and reinstalling the aftermarket many times during ownership. Not an easy to install this exhaust as it requires subframe to be removed due to engine placement. I think its a 5-6 hour job minimum.
Pretty sure we didn’t delete the GPF hence no CEL. No need. Plenty of sound with 250/X Pipe/Exhaust for me. I had 100 Sport cats/GPF delete/Exhaust/Xpipe in a previous setup and it was a mess. Threw a ton of codes, limp mode and I felt it was far too loud. Went back to stock for a while which was way too subdued. Wanted to give it one last shot before potentially selling and I reached out to Capristo who told me about the 250’s. That was a year ago and it’s easily my fav car I’ve ever owned. Just passed the 10K mile mark. For me, this setup is perfectly dialed in.
This is interesting. I thought GPF and stock cats were one piece. Putting 250 cell cats would imply removing stock cats therefore GPF with it. Are you saying GPF is a separate piece and can be married with a more low cell count catalyst? Or are you saying your 250 cell cat has a GPF attached to it to mimic stock GPF behavior?
These are all really good questions, I was engaged in a similar conversation on another thread and didn’t have the answer, so I went back to my guys who did the work and they explained that they didn’t remove the GPF, which I found surprising as well. I was under the impression from them that the GPF on the 812 is separate from the cats and can be left intact. Let me see if I can find the thread or the texts.

Not a GTS here, but a 2020 Ferrari 812 Superfast without GPF. I’ll tell you right off the bat if you’re thinking of going straight-piped, the CEL is definitely going to be prominent. In fact, it happens often, even with the Novitec OBD dongle. You really need a tune to avoid it, but I wouldn’t recommend going down that route. The car is incredibly loud, but outside, under load, it sounds unbelievable like an old-school F1 car. For reference, I’m running a full titanium IPE kit: backbox, X-pipe, and catless pipes. With that in mind, you can run into small issues like melting O2 sensors, dealing with the awful smell, neighbors complaining (with good reason), and drone especially if you disconnect the valves like I did. It’s definitely best to have a dongle to control the valves. I was recommended Tubi, which is what I’ll be installing regardless. I say “regardless” because before this setup, I was running a stock backbox, Novitec X-pipe, and 100-cell Novitec pipes. The car sounded refined and perfect for most people, but even then, I’d get a CEL from time to time. Back then, I had a Forza valve controller, which I eventually removed because I suspect it was causing most of the CELs. According to my Ferrari dealer, it’s a module that doesn’t really piggyback off the existing system, which can lead to weird electrical issues and the occasional CEL. All that being said, I don’t plan on keeping the car straight-piped forever. I just wanted to experience it because I think IPE makes incredible products, and it’s been on my bucket list to hear that true F1 scream from a car I actually own. It definitely delivered. I’ll be going back to my previous setup, but I’ll be keeping the IPE backbox which is valved and reconnecting the valves using the Tubi kit. I’ll report back if you’re interested to see whether the CEL still comes up, but from what I’ve seen, GPF or not, the CEL seems to be part of the experience.
I’ll say the other nice thing about my setup is no OBD plug in. As bad as the CEL were, the limp mode was far worse. Not worth it in my opinion.
Yeah that is crazy to have to reverse the setup periodically. I don't see how that is worth it....too much manipulating and a chore.
I have stored my car for a few weeks now waiting for Ferrari to service it. There is a nasty oil leak from the solenoid cover on the top of the engine. It has been “fixed” once before and is leaking again. My warranty is about to expire so they better fix it this time! Anyway, oil leak aside, exhaust is still awesome. No more CELs, I’m really happy with it. I won’t need to change back to stock as the car will pass emissions tests in the UK with this setup, at last that’s what I’m told!
Ugh make sure they are VERRRRYYY thorough with this. I had the same issue and it took them 3 months to get it done. I kicked and screamed(never to them) a bit but TBH I am so happy how thorough my guys were. It’s a common issue with these cars but a real issue. Make sure they really put th time time in. It’s pretty extensive work. Will says my car felt brand new after and fwiw they did all this work with caprito cats, exhaust etc. Never said a word….
