Hello Has anyone had this happen on their 812? The headliner near the front windshield started coming off out of no where. Even the alcantara that attached to the roof seems to have gap in them - when I push on them against the roof panel, it feels like its not "glued" there anymore. I'm waiting for a quote back from the dealer to fix this but after sending the pics to them, the service manager says the "Leather would need to be removed and sent out for repair". Any suggestions? Do you have the leather headliner option? I think this has been reported before with leather headliner
I have HEADLINER WITH ALCANTARA UPHOLSTERY but the part where the sun visor is, is definitely leather. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I guess this why the heat insulating windscreen is a good option to have. I have no idea why it's not standard given that the interiors get damaged so much without it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I spec that on every car I order. Makes a big difference in the Texas sun. (107 here today…) Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I have the heat insulating windshield option on my F12 but still always try to put on windshield cover when I park. Ferrari leather looks good but it’s delicate to say the least. Have owned a multitude of other cars, never have seen this. Same thing happened to an old 612 — headliner had to be reglued / reinstalled …. Maybe the day will come when Ferrari can afford better glue and stop using buttons that get sticky .
Almost all of the upholstery in my F12's truck is falling apart, some of the dashboard elements too, I guess they haven't changed the adhesive they use for the 812...
Is the consensus that it is a heat issue? Cars parked frequently in direct sun? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The heat is definitely the problem indeed, but if the quality of the adhesive was better, no heat will ever lead to such problem. For me the quality of that adhesive is totally unacceptable.
The rear hatch area of that chassis (F12B, F12tdf, 812sf, 812c, etc) will bake the materials. My presumption is even the best adhesive (which Ferrari's likely is not) would not last long. Its a function of the drivetrain position and the number of miles you put on. Any owner knows how hot that area gets even outside the car near the rear fenders. Pull the rear panels off and look up and you'll see why.
The heat is a major factor and weakens many adhesives. The accepted best adhesive for the purpose is the Weldwood Landau HHR contact cement. HHR stands for high heat resistance and is meant for dash boards. It’s not necessarily something you can apply yourself if you aren’t familiar with applying contact adhesives. I would first see if it can be taken care of under warranty. I have a panel on my F12 I need to use it in and was hoping to eventually post a diy. But again, if you aren’t familiar with it it’s not an easy to use adhesive.
Thanks. The dealership is quoting me close to $5,000 to take the entire headliner off and then re-apply it back on. I only have the New Power warranty so it doesn't cover this unfortunately. The car's always garaged but it does sit in the NJ sun every now and then.
maybe they should use the button material in the headliner glue so that it takes over the normal glue after a couple of years and keep it well stuck together
