I read the manual and watched the video. Warmed the car up well and tried to launch my new 812. No go. Car stopped, foot on brake, engage first gear, press PS button. Throttle to floor and take foot off brake. Both times the car stayed in first gear all the way to the rev limited which then did what it does and cut power. No gear changes, no warning symbols on the dash. Any ideas?

The PS button (launch control) allows you to start in 1st gear at a higher RPM with your foot on the brake. You have to shift into 2nd gear before you reach the Rev Limiter.

Launch Control, a good way to trash your car.

Would suggest not to use that option. Broken 1st/2nd forks are the norm. Minimum 15k fix. It's a stupid option to be offered. But i suppose marketed to those with zero mechanical knowledge or sympathy.
