Nah, no thanks. Passed on the GTS when I was offered a slot (also the 599 can’t even remember when -it was so far back). I only buy stuff I like. No, if my son likes it I’ll get one as he’ll get either the SF or the 167 when I pass (he’s 26). I’m too old and too tired (frankly bored) to play the game any more. ps Not 211, but 30mph to 176+ to 30 in 1K is spectacular and more than necessary for a road car. And NO GPF Feel free to d/l the original- I don’t GAS July 18, 2020 Image Unavailable, Please Login ps Sorry to feed the trolls guys, but I’m working and just couldn’t resist…. Automotive technology (i.e. not screens) and performance is what matters in an motorcar, unless I am mistaken in thinking that they are driving machines.
They are all driving machines, But they all look, feel and perform differently the latest isn't always best. The newer car have no soul or should I say a very watered down soul.
Really? Why is that? What does soul even mean? Breaking down every 10 miles? (BTW, as an atheist I don't believe even in human soul).
A soul has nothing to do with a god. if you don't understand / feel it no one can truly tell you. But its what has set Ferrari apart from so many other car for so long. Each of those models didn't break down every 10 miles in there time period. Nor are we are we talking about putting a new and a 50 plus year old in a race together. Just because something is newer does it its better. So what if it faster... Does its feel the same no, does it look, smell or sound the same no. There are People much Bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger today but the thing is Arnold had the right balance that what makes him the best to so many. Many of those old models have a far better Mix/Balance to that of these newer cars.
Let us not be mistaken, for 75 years Ferrari has been making V12 engines that have won world championships and powered the worlds fastest cars. No other manufacturer has this tradition and track record with V12 engines, which means that Ferrari has all the necessary know-how that allows it to design and manufacture any type of V12 engine. Having said that and according to the opinion of many experts, the Cosworth V12 engine that powers the T50 is indeed surprising, however we are talking about a hyper car for very few that, in addition to costing more than $3 million, is inspired by an F1, and is therefore more a track machine rather than a road car.
Soul is a supernatural concept that refers to something intangible and is intrinsically related to a deity. There is no such thing in cars (nor in humans, to be frank), it's all about engineering and 99 out of 100 times newer is better. You mentioned old cars. Would you really prefer to drive a 365 (Daytona) over an 812, because of that vague soul thing?
Yes, I prefer the Daytona. A car with character and without any bling bling. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I guess Luddites still exist... If one thinks that a modern Ferrari doesn't have character. they should try pressing on the accelerator pedal...
Not a place to discuss one's religion or lack of one. This is about cars, specifically Ferrari. You can belive that you are soulless or came from monkey as an result of evolution. But you can't make it a fact, (to be frank). Back to 167.
”inspired by an F1, and is therefore more a track machine rather than a road car.” And remember, this was the biggest problem for Mercedes and the AMG One, trying to make a high-revving Formula 1 based engine actually work for normal street driving.
I can infer that you are miffed by my strictly secular allusions, but that's something beyond my scope of interest. Returning to the 167, I am quite certain that the engineering briefing does not include the addition of "soul", in whichever unit that may be measured in the SI.
In all sympathy, I find and have always found that you unfortunately have a "simplistic" vision of what a Ferrari should be. Your central argument about speed lacks elaboration...
I did and my point was why put down other owners cars vs I love my GTS. We all own a lot of the models and they are all Ferrari's. I'm sure an F40 F50 La Enzo owner could post / boast but you never see that or a comp owner saying the only paper 812 is the comp. Missing the mark in a Ferrari is no offense, to that owner who is extremely proud of and rightfully so. I guess being a car guy and seeing what their owners bring to an event - it's their pride and joy. Anyway - I've loved cars forever especially exotics. I can drive my 69z28 and everyone gives me a thumbs up - switch to a Ferrari and it's 50/50 if people think I am an ******* or cool guy. If Ferrari owners could just be a little more nicer to others it would be nice vs mine is better than yours. I'm not directing this at you - it just seems to be a common theme here to put down others pride and joy.
Loving Ferrari doesn't prevent you from being lucid!! The direction taken by the brand is not the right one for enthusiasts in general. There is a new clientele that wants thousands of hp on a car without worrying about the definition, nor the engine and philosophy of the car. So much the better for her and for Ferrari, but the observation is simple; I have nothing in common with it, that's the way it is and it's very good for me. If it suits you, your choice is respectable, But it's not mine. The current range to come except 167 and Icona almost innacessible for the vast majority is only made of disposable product, without soul (and yes, symbolically the engine and its nobility are the soul of a Ferrari, with all due respect to our friend Realzeus.. it's no coincidence that the V12 is the brand's iconic engine and its creator's favorite).
I have 740hp in my F12. On average I probably use 100 of them… Do I care for more horsepower? No. I care about how the car makes me feel. It isn’t a daily driver for me, and so every time I take it for a drive, I need it to make me feel a million dollars. And it does. Every single time. Why? The looks, the sound, the general sense of occasion. The reality of driving a timeless beauty with a V12 normally aspirated pure ICE powertrain. Do I miss rear wheel steer? No. Do I miss being able to do a standing quarter in 10 seconds? No. Do I miss haptic controls? No. Do i miss keyless? No. Do I miss any of the new gizmos and gadgets that invade more new cars these days, but add nothing to the ‘experience’? No. Do I regret that my V12 has less power than a whole range of EVs and hybrid powertrain cars? No. And so, my hope for the 167 is very simple. I just want it to be a pure celebration of beautiful design, the pure Ferrari V12 and the best sound in the business. That’s all I want. How hard can it be? And I personally believe that Ferrari understands this. They will make hybrid monsters for the statistics warriors and SUVs for footballers, and Apple influenced EVs to satisfy the legislators, and that’s fine by me if that means there’s still capacity to give me one regular production model which pulls my V12 heart strings.
So if people like the brand (and are clearly buying ) but for different reasons than you prefer, they are not enthusiasts? Only true “enthusiasts” like it a certain way. Got it. [emoji849] Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Ok Ok, that is a hilarious statement. Apple lost its way and all iPhones since the iPhone x are soulless compared to Android? When did cell phones ever have a “soul”? Or any phone for that matter. Was it back when we had switchboard operators? LOL!! All in good fun, you know! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
That captures it for me. When I began to be able to afford it, I dipped my toe in with a California because I was concerned about reliability. My dad used to race on the amateur circuit in the 50’s and always spoke glowingly of those beautiful V12’s. My grandfather had a V12 open top for a short while but sold it because tuning all those webers was a pita and they could never keep it running. Dad had several including an F40 in the 80’s. The first time I sat in the driver’s seat and started a V12, I blushed like a school girl! Nothing sounds like that! I cannot believe I am able to own several Ferraris now. Ordered our SF812 and plan to keep forever. But I also have an F8 that is a blast to drive. I have an allocation for a PS and 296GTB. Not certain I will exercise that. Planning to do so in the 167, regardless of the dash. :/ I don’t race. I’m no good at wrenching on cars past the points/plugs and condensers of yesteryear. Recently purchased a gated 355 and that’s about as retro as I am comfortable with although I look longingly at those early V12’s…. I don’t see me retiring sooner than age 80 or so. Work is mostly what I do. But I derive a special pleasure from driving my special cars - even if it is just to work and back. I like the quirkiness, smell, sound and feel. So I do understand the use of “soul” to describe these cars. I’m unsure about how this future turns out. Sometimes I think I would like to sell a few cars and just get a Singer! Please don’t shoot me for that! Perhaps it would have the blend of old feel with new technology (brakes, reliability, suspension etc). And it only looks like a lowly old Porsche to those who don’t know which is an increasing concern these days. Anyhow, back on topic. I hope the 167 is a car I will love. I’m still torn between loving the new things - quiet as to wind noise, reliable and fun, or just calling it quits as far as new cars go. The cars I have far exceed my capabilities and are exceptionally thrilling. Ok enough ramblings from the peanut gallery here. Carry on! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Cell phones are devices- akin to a handheld appliance- and assign soul to them at your own risk as many kids do today robbing them of their soul and sanity. Sports Cars are devices as well but unlike appliances these exotica exist to stir the soul Ferrari has done a marvelous job to date stirring souls and may be losing a step or two as it deals with new rules and regulations The F167 will be very telling if it has lost that step Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Luca Cordero di Montezemolo understood how to sell to the CLASSES, and did so passionately. Post-IPO, dispassionate, bean-counting RACE sells to the MASSES. Big difference. As reflected by the "product" they render today. For the few of us remaining who remember how it used to be, it's more than a little sad.
