I also prefer the rear on the new Aston to the rear of the new Ferrari. I am not convinced of the large black area on the Ferrari, yet, the Aston also has a large black area- although this can be had in carbon fiber as well as body color- when it is in any contrasting color, it enhances the notion that the rear of the car is open, and in between the lights is like a big vent for rear cooling (engine/ transmission/ brakes) - yet there is no such opening. Seems silly to me. The Ferrari has the flaps and the delta graphic, it at least visually makes sense on the coupe, it makes less sense on the spider. And the rear bumper above the exhausts from some angles looks terribly pinched in. I have not yet seen the Aston in person. When I saw the Ferrari, I asked several people I know, who are not into cars at all, what do you think of the new Dodici Cilindri... everyone said the said the same thing: its beautiful. I then asked, does this look like a Ferrari to you- of course, it has Ferrari badges, but the response was an immediate- yes, this looks like a Ferrari. I like this test, because sometimes it's possible to be too close to something. Often, as enthusiasts, we lose the forrest for the trees. Time will tell where we place the Dodici Cilindri in the list of great Ferrari designs. Likely, each one of us will have his or her own order.

That's interesting. I have asked the same question of lots of non-car people of all ages and have mainly gotten the opposite response. It's worth noting that this was based on photos, not in-person viewing. And it's possible that my own biases influenced their reaction (I try my best to appear neutral when asking the question, but perhaps the fact that I was asking the question was a clue). I will need to find a new control group and repeat the experiment. :)

Of all the people I've asked, my wife's reaction was the strongest (far stronger than mine) and most immediate. She is normally quite open minded and reluctant to share her opinion until she's heard mine. But on this one she is, shall we say, not a fan.

I lot of early photos gave the impression of a large rear end because of the reflective black parts not showing their true elegance.
The spider tends to look more realistic. I would recommend you use this photo for your next control group

As I’ve said before the spider is leagues better looking than the coupe. I know others disagree but if all the retractable hardtops Ferrari has put out, this is the best(from rear and rear 3/4 view)

It's a more comfortable 812 Comp with a better gearbox for a third the price. Of course he wants one.

It feels like you've been paid to live in this thread every single day and **** on one specific car every single day. I've never seen anything like it, but that's what it looks like. Maybe you were bullied right outside the factory gates in Maranello late at night and you can't get over the humiliation?

Is it normal to sling mud at a car in this thread for the third month? And this happens every day, this user writes only in this thread and these are exclusively negative comments. All adults, accomplished and capable men here. Given this, it is obvious that there are personal motives for such destructive behavior. Did they leave the resume to the design department unanswered? I see no other reason for such persistent persecution of Manzoni's latest creation.

Perhaps he has a personal vendetta. Or perhaps he just really doesn't like it, it bothers him, he's passionate about it. and he comes here to vent his frustrations.

I'm guessing the latter. We all have our hobbies...

The intervention of a moderator in Ferrari Chat is something very unusual and as far as I remember, it only happens when someone crosses red lines and, as was the case, enters the field of insults.

The 12C is an amalgam of styles and represents a somewhat radical break with a long past of V12 Ferrari GTs in which you could sketch the back with just six or eight circles, two or four round lights and four round exhausts. Therefore, it is perfectly normal for it to be the subject of criticism from many of those, like me, who do not identify with this new stylistic direction taken by Flavio Manzoni.

Flavio Manzoni, not being the supreme leader of a totalitarian regime but the Chief Design Officer of Ferrari, is subject to praise and criticism.

I’ve always liked the clamshell type paint of the Berlinetta Boxer-top red and bottom black.
The 12C would have turned out better if the white was carried down to the crease from front to back. This one is a bit awkwardly done

The white has to fit or start with the black nose top edge. Bringing the white lower on the body causes more problems than it solves. Would be interesting to see the rear view as I think the artist cheated with 'forbidden' white on the rear deck in front of the rear spoiler... ;)

Wow, I actually like this. First time I've said that about a 12C. Perhaps because my eye isn't immediately drawn to the black plexi nose bit? (Though I still think it would look better painted blue to match.) Whatever it is, this resolves a lot of the things I dislike about the design, at least from this angle.

Any photos from the back? I'm guessing this won't address my issues with the black graphic at the rear. But very curious now.

I like it also, it would be nice since they are rendering, if they could design nicer wheels.

I'm impressed by those wheels. I'm not sure which ones to spec yet, but I am very opposed to aftermarket wheels for the most part, so I'll pay for the best OEM ones. That being said, I need to see them in person....
