Could new investment in new technologies / batteries at a time China is taking the lead create instead new jobs at a difficult time? The other way to look at it is given the high price paid from the energy dependency on Russia Europe could in turn politically ( and environmentally) decide to step up efforts to reduce that demand from Russian energy. At to it green and environmentalists lobbies which have become stronger particularly at a time where high inflation is caused by that dependency on fossil fuels. How will the EU justify continuing to maintain or increase that dependency given the harm causedby surging energy prices? Not too sure they can do that politically and at the same time ignore scientific advice on emissions and global warming. Time will tell

Currently nearly 10% of the LNG ship fleet it waiting to regasify at European ports, but, Europe is not equipped to handle this process, it will take years, a process that should of started long ago.
    https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/dozens-lng-laden-ships-queue-off-europes-coasts-unable-unload-2022-10-17

That plus mining their own natural gas resources would be a great idea:
    https://iogpeurope.org/european-gas-reserves/

Not to mention coal and nuclear.

"high inflation caused by dependency on fossil fuels" --> correction --> "high inflation caused by unnecessary governmental interference in production and distribution of natural earth fuels"

Only coal is a 'fossil fuel', all the rest are the result of natural processes that are ongoing (unclear on that? check out Saturn's moon Titan and its hydrocarbon lakes)

"ignore scientific advice on emissions and global warming" --> correction --> "it is time to ignore all government propaganda regarding global cooling, global warming, climate change as CO2 is a necessary plant food, required for life on this planet"

not to mention, that in the scientific studies there is this:

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

You see, people are simple, propaganda is simple, reality is quite different.

Once you understand that all the 'CO2' villain propaganda is intended to stop food production (see Holland farmers and others), personal independence (travel) and quite a lot more, it becomes clear what is going on is intended to deceive you.

Notice how CO2 tracks quite evenly, as it is due to natural processes, does not correlate at all with petroleum production/usage:

Unclear how that link has anything to do with my post, here are the details of the link you posted:

    Press release28 October 2022Brussels
Zero emission vehicles: first ‘Fit for 55' deal will end the sale of new CO2 emitting cars in Europe by 2035

The European Commission welcomes the agreement reached last night by the European Parliament and Council ensuring all new cars and vans registered in Europe will be zero-emission by 2035. As an intermediary step towards zero emissions, the new CO2 standards will also require average emissions of new cars to come down by 55% by 2030, and new vans by 50% by 2030. This agreement marks the first step in the adoption of the ‘Fit for 55' legislative proposals tabled by the Commission in July 2021, and demonstrates ahead of COP27 the EU's domestic implementation of its international climate commitments.

Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans, said: “The agreement sends a strong signal to industry and consumers: Europe is embracing the shift to zero-emission mobility. European carmakers are already proving they are ready to step up to the plate, with increasing and increasingly affordable electric cars coming to the market. The speed at which this change has happened over the past few years is remarkable. It is no wonder that this file is the first one in the entire Fit for 55 package where Member States and the European Parliament have come to a final deal.”

This clear signal to manufacturers and citizens will accelerate the production and sale of low- and zero-emission vehicles and put road transport on a firm path to climate neutrality by 2050. This new legislation will make the EU's transport system more sustainable, provide cleaner air for Europeans and marks an important step in delivering the European Green Deal. It clearly shows the commitment of the EU to reach its climate goals and shows that Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine is not slowing our clean energy transition but rather accelerating our work and making us progress faster to become the world's first climate neutral continent by 2050.

    Next steps

Today's provisional agreement now requires formal adoption by the Parliament and the Council. Once this process is completed, the new legislation will be published in the Official Journal of the Union and enter into force.

    Background

The revision of the CO2 emission standards for cars and vans is one of the ‘Fit for 55' proposals presented by the Commission in July 2021 to make the EU's climate, energy, land use, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.

Achieving these emission reductions in the next decade is crucial to Europe becoming the world's first climate neutral continent by 2050 and making the European Green Deal a reality. The legislative tools are set to deliver on the targets agreed in the European Climate Law and fundamentally transform our economy and society for a fair, green and prosperous future.

    My prediction:
It will be an absolute disaster (BEV car production will be insufficient, power grid unable to sustain, populace will rebel as more than 40% have no ability to plug in overnight and never will, etc.) and will either be pushed back or dismantled...

Have you seen this? Just the beginning...

I agree there are challenges though the more I read about it the more it seems production of new ice engines is likely to be banned from 2035 onwards. That said it applies to new cars previous combustion engines will still be on the road til 2050 . By then I’m sure the technology will be there to deal with increasing demand of more affordable and efficient batteries. I also predict that cars are likely to become more expensive yes as a result and cars will become less accessible to average earners and public / shared green transport will become the norm.

I was reading separately aren’t the US in some states ( california , NY) moving towards the same zero emission rules as Europe?

Those are not going to hold either, US has a federal system and allowed California its own ability to set standards but other states cannot do that, and the "rules" are fickle and will not withstand the test of time or law.

Straight into the wall, without braking!
Almost the whole normal range will be V6 TT hybrid, with the exception of the PS and 167...
    Waiting for full electric...
    I'm already falling asleep !
much more effective than an episode of Inspector Derrick...
The marketing is all excited to think that they are the ones who will have to sell the cars and make you imagine that you will be an exceptional person in these V6 TTH

That’s what I heard as well and also heard that it would probably “be the last”….although that sounds familiar. Not too sure how desirable / collectible it will be if like you said they keep on producing it until 2030…
