Made the decision to jump into an 812 finally. I’ve searched the forum and haven’t found many threads on this (apologies if I missed any).

What are the critical must have options for a 2018 SF?
Is front axle lift important? It seems Ferrari’s clearance is quite good but maybe lift is an important resale option as it is in the Porsche world I am coming from.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.

There aren’t really any ‘must have’ options beyond the ones that YOU actually want. It’s understandable that you should ask the question because other brands tend to over-emphasise such things.

Of course, the traditional refrain of Rosso Corsa over black or tan is put about by salesmen for the comfort of first time buyers but the truth of the matter is that the only specification which matters to the Ferraristi is that it’s a Ferrari. The rest is gravy.

This is why, despite your diligent search, you haven’t been able to find anything on the subject of ‘desirable’ options.

For those who tell you that shields are essential, there will be those who seek the purity of a car without shields. For those who tell you that LED wheels or carbon driving zones are de rigeur, there will be those who prefer to avoid such gimmicks. Then there’s the GPF/non GPF debate…

Over time, I’ve found that most people who have the means and desire to own a V12 Ferrari are at a stage in their life where they don’t give a hoot what others think about them.

So don’t sweat the spec. Buy what you like, not what you think the next guy (or gal) will like, and be happy. Take a look at the 812 photos thread to get a feel for what’s out there and what’s possible.

Ferrari is about passion and emotion, not engineering and specification.

I tend to agree with this. Some people like carbon other do not, yes most people do not like a green interior so maybe avoid that!

Are you concerned more about the driving experience or about resale?

For me, it was driving experience (including long drives for vacations and the like), so the must haves for me were:
    • Front axle lift
    • Upgraded stereo
    • Carbon-fiber steering wheel (to get the shift lights); preferably CF Driver Zone to get the paddles as well.
    • Full electric seats
I would have liked Apple Car Play, but pretty much none of the cars came with it.

As important as what it had were what it did NOT have. For example, I wanted a minimum amount of exterior carbon fiber to avoid expensive replacements for those things exposed to weather and road debris. And I wanted to avoid bright leather on the dash because of the windshield reflections that can create. And in general I wanted to avoid too many non-functional (e.g., appearance) options to help keep the cost down.
