Gentlemen, Just now i tried to start my GTSI and it took about 5 tries. I looked at the fuses, all were OK.I noticed the fuel pump fuse to be somewhat on the hot side.I got it started and let her warm up,shut her off and she started right away.Is it time to upgrade to Birdmans fuse blocks? Has anyone else had a problem simular to this? Also I had'nt started her in about 3 weeks. Thanks Harry.

The fuel pump uses a lot of current, so if the fuse is getting hot, it's not making good contact. the birdman fuse block is a tempting idea, but at least remove the fuse and brush fuse and socket with brass brush to remove oxidation and improve conductivity.

Thanks for the input,I cleaned all the fuses and put corrosion block on all contacts and noticed a little puff of smoke coming from the pump fuse.I immediately shut the car off wiped off the excess the smoking stopped.Just bothers me on how warm the fuse is now.

    1. What is the fuse rating on the cover? Is the fuse amp rating in the block per the specs?

    2. Is the fuel pump original ? if so, it may be pulling a lot more current due to wear or clogging due to corrosion products in the fuel tank.

If you are so inclined, you might want to measure the current draw of the fuel pump and compare it to the factory specs. I am running a Carter universal EFI fuel pump (60 psi) identical to the stock bosch and it does not overheat the fuses, it runs fine.

When I removed the orginal Bosch fuel pump it was full of rust.

It calls for and has a 16 amp fuse. We're on the same track this morning i was thinking maybe the filter is clogging and that would pull extra amps.I'm going to be taking it in next month to Omega Mtr sports for valve adjust, brakepads and brake fluid change.Next addon fuel filter gotta keep Steve busy!
