Anybody have a part number for an 83 308qv alternator belt? (has individual belt for alternator not combined with waterpump) Does anyone know of a good replacement belt that's not OEM? my belt decided to disentigrate the other evening and I would like to get it replaced pretty quick, but not sure which belt I can use.

Just a couple of quick thoughts here. Since the alternator belt went, you might want to check the water pump belt and replace that too. Belts are cheap. Since the alternator belt is the outside belt, you would have to remove it later to change or replace the water pump belt. And assuming they were of the same vintage, probably just as well to change that one too.

When you install the new belt, make sure that both the tensioner bolt and the bolt holding the alternator to the bracket on the block are properly tightened. If the bolt on the block bracket is not tight, the alternator can work loose on the tensioner alone over time and cause the belt to slip, leading to failure. Ask me how I learned that one.

I agree with FasterisBetter on this. WHY did the belt expire? Either the water pump packed up or the two bearings pressed back-to-back into the idler pulley did. If you need those bearings they are commonly available 6002-2RS (15x32x9 single-row ball bearings)
