I am definitely going to show this ad to my wife. That asking price makes our $15,000 '83 look like the deal of the century.

About the "all original" part, that interior definitely is not. Our Rosso Nearco '83 with tan and brown interior has loop carpet, in a variegated pattern that I call "oatmeal," and the front seat leather is heavily "patina-ed." I would trade interiors in a heartbeat with the sale car, but the sale car's interior is definitely a re-do.

I'm thinkin' you might be right, & I'm suspecting that the exterior of this Series 2 is a respray because the inset tail light panel is black like the Series 1 cars, not color-keyed like the Series 2's.

Well, it's only got 11K mi. on the clock with the ext. & int. possibly redone. Without the engine/suspension pix, there's no tellin' where it's at.

Yes, I agree, that is strange..
Does anyone know of a local mechanic I could hire to go over and check it out?

Gee whiz, 11k miles and you can't expect to be original and perfect? I bough a Mercedes from a guy who was about 150lbs and wore a suit almost every time he drove. The seats were practically new at 105k.

I live in Venice Beach so I'm driving down this morning to take a closer look at it.
Anything particular should I look for?

There's a quick pan of the interior in the video: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orO2ZhCHayc]Ferrari 400i at auction! - YouTube[/ame]
    It looks very presentable.

"This car cranks, runs, and drives; will need some tuning." Translation: another K-Jetronic system that's sat unused for too long.

If this car is really being sold at auction with no reserve I'll be the winner will snag it for not more than $15,000.

Really not sold on that colour for a 400, especially with a tan interior (which looks very yellow in the brief clip).

Maybe with a Black interior but tan seems an odd choice to me. Anyone know if that's the original colour for this car ?

Apologies to anyone with the same colour car - no offense meant.

The thing I noticed is the gauges not working. The engine's running but the tach for sure is not working and the oil pressure I'd say is not working either. Water temp, we can't know because that gauge stays flat for several minutes at start up.

Responding to jippiejake's interest: if you live in Cali you'd be well advised not to try to bring a 400i into the state. Unless the car was registered in Cali at some point in its past, it is unlikely you can get it registered today.

I was thinking that would be a problem for sure...The one red one here in California was actually registered already here..
I did hire a local mechanic close by the yellow car to go by and look at it tomorrow..
He will look for any smog gear.
    I will report back..
    Thanks,
    Mike

With an asking price of $48,500 (for an auto especially but still an insane price even if it was a 5 speed), it will continue to be for sale for a LONG time, a very long time!

The car does run rough with either fuel or electronic issue causing missing at low rpm. Seems to clear up under heavy throttle. Seats are fair with minimal cracking but needs a good cleaning and good rub down with leather conditioner. Gauges are "mostly working" at least on Sunday. Oil temp not showing after short run. Fans working properly. Levelers working fine but still sitting a little low in the back. 2 newer tires, others ok.

Bad Stuff: exhaust has been totally removed with just the rear resonators left (and there's an exhaust leak in the left bank. Front spoiler appears to have had one or more hard curb stop crashes. Needs to be replaced or repaired. Dinoplex replaced with aftermarket (did not get type) with MSD blaster coil installed. Numerous loose or cracked hoses that need to be replaced. Oil cooler mounts are separating from cross member.

Pan under/around the passenger seat appears to be rusted severely, possibly all the way thru. Not sure about rails.

Paint appears to be original or a very good recoat at one time. No sign of respray that I could find. Some stress cracks in paint; do not appear to be major.

    No tool kit

My dream car may not be my dream car anylonger :)
