'83 bbi.....car has and does run great....fresh from a major.....when I first start it from cold the idle seems high (around 1900 rpm), it then settles down as the car warms up, and finally begins to settle all the way down (as in stalls) as soon as i come to a stop and the clutch is dis-engaged....so, essentially, it runs great but won't idle when warm. Cranks fine and re-starts, i just have to keep on the gas....all electrics working......i'm in the middle of nowhere.....ok to drive? Hope someone is awake. thx

Does the boxer use a throttle pendulum? If so, check the throttle resting screw on the pendulum. Make sure it's resting on the screw and not on the plate. If the car doesn't have a pendulum, both banks throttle linkages should meet at a common point somewhere. Follow them from their respective throttle butterfly linkage (should be near the air filter) to their common meeting point. Look at the adjustment there. There should be some sort of idle screw/stop screws. If it's backed way out, then adjust it. This is where your can raise/lower your idle. Check this first. If this doesn't correct it then it could be a few things.
Does your car run rough at all while driving it?

I just posted a problem recently with identical issues and found the fuel accumilator needed to be repalce. A gasoline smell around the front of the engine will be a start . You have 2 located in this area and my understanding this accumilator goes bad when fully filled with fuel and starts to leak slowly.
I am not sure the specifics how this works.
