FWIW, the rubber covers over the wiper nuts are depicted in the Ferrari parts manual. TAV 116, #3, PN 61035200 Cappucio copridado. My car, 51723 came with them and appeared to be original.
Thank you! Im not sure why some markets have them. This boxer and my 400 both have the correct black acorn nuts under them.
One of my new billet diff's in for a preload check with the existing shims and its right on the money. Ill check gear pattern and backlash next. The one un-plated stud for the side cover was left in because it felt like it was going to snap if I insisted on taking it out. A case of "the cure is worse than the disease". Its hidden well enough to let slide and the front studs are not visible to anyone but the pedestrian you're running over. Thats mine! I was changing the oil over the holidays. I do have some 400 customers too, not just boxers
Came across the pics of the injected engine I bought that had thrown a rod. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ouch, I doubt Nolan Ryan could throw that hard in his heyday. ;-) Wish I had my car down here in Fl, I'm in need of a blast. Work looks amazing as always in pictures and it's the exact same even in the flesh.
We made a very light cut on the one block half to allow us to correct the main journal alignment and size. New bearings, fresh paint and reinstalled studs that were pulled to make the cut on the block. Tomorrow Ill bolt the two halves back together. Cutting the block on a flat 12 doesn't leave much room for correction like a V8 or any V engine because the engine has to fit the gearbox, the timing cover has to fit the two halves once together and the rear main seal opening has to be taken into consideration as well. Wow, those are some amazing photos. What were you able to salvage from that engine that made you want to buy it?
The front timing cover was what I wanted and various studs were worth every penny. I’ve since sold the engine to someone that wanted it after I took what I needed. I had it kicking around in the loft for a couple of years before deciding I really didn’t need this thing sitting here.
Going back together, crank spins nicely. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
hello Paul.....that piston skirt could be damaged. I'd have an expert check it before it goes back in. Cheers, Bernie out west.
Rebuilt timing case and water pump. Liners and pistons next. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cant get that one past my wife. Wouldn't exactly go with the decor in my house either. I have this in my office though! 675HP at 10300 RPM! (no thats not me in the background and its really a Cosworth engine) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cleaned up the pulleys. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
New pistons I modify by hand to give me the radial clearance I need for the intake valves. Im better off doing this myself because with the other changes to the pistons vs stock, I can't really explain the location of the side relief. Ill finish them up with some wet paper and then they're ready. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, the factory pistons have a similar side notch, boxer, 308 doesn't matter. Although the piston doesn't look much different than a stock one, its far from stock and I needed to put the side notch there for radial clearance only. Even all stock the valve would hit if the factory didn't put that notch there. The exhaust has a mile of clearance to the point I dont see the need for a valve relief. Unless of course you missed a shift and somehow the engine spiked to 12K RPM then maybe, MAYBE it would need an exhaust relief.
