HELP, I HAVE A 1983 FERRARI GTI WITH A 2 VALVE ENGINE. THE CAR RUNS AND PERFORMS WELL. IF I TURN THE ENGINE OFF AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A WHILE IT WILL NOT RE-START UNTIL THE ENGINE COOLS OFF. THE FUEL DISTRIBUTOR AND FUEL INJECTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT THE PROBLEM CAN BE? THANKS, JIM
When you say that "it will not re-start", do you mean: 1. the engine is cranked over by the starter motor, but it doesn't fire, or 2. the starter motor does not engage at all?
or both. I had to replace both. If the check valve in the fuel pump is bad then just buy an external check valve and replace the fuel line between the pump and accumulator as the new valve is a differant size and uses a "banjo" fitting. Gt Car Parts in Phx has them. If you change the fuel pump the same applies as the old pump whith the check valve internal is no longer available. The acumulator is an easy swap out. Dave
It certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to verify what the fuel supply pressure is doing during the hot restart (as 308GTS's post implied) , but what do you mean by "give it gas"? Intentionally put some raw fuel into the intake tract, or just press the gas pedal down?
This post looks very suspicious, looks like a 10 yr old is posting, and replies thanks with the Very Limited response/information. If you are legit, fill out your profile more..
my '83 is a QV. But my hotstart issue was an intermittent fuel pump problem. Pump replaced, problem gone.
