Great day today.... first drive of the Spring in NE Ohio. Sure have missed the sweet sounds of that Italian v8!

Speaking of which.... I've searched here and YouTube a bit with no success... can anyone point me to info/videos etc on checking the engine oil level? And, when is the proper time to check? Cold, warm, after cool down?

    Thanks in advance friends!

I usually wait 15 minutes after I turn the engine off and check it then, making sure the car is flat, not on a hill.

Cool, thanks Ron. Is there a "typical" dipstick? Where is it? thanks!

Hi Matthew, yes on my 1983 QV the dipstick is in the right hand upper corner of the engine bay, so close to the rear window. It doesn't look like a regular dipstick. It has a rectangular black plastic top, about one inch in size and probably has a wire attached at that point. The dip-stick itself sits in a tube as you would expect and is flexible all along its length so it comes out very easily even though it is in a fairly confined space.

    Cheers

Actually, if you look at the recent 'Oil leak at the dipstick?' thread there are some great photos of the dipstick and it's location in the engine bay.

Those were state of the art electronics back in 83.......oil level indicator that would light up the dashboard when low. Wow!
