If you're planning to be at Continental anytime soon, let me know. They have an '84 QV in red/tan, 8500 miles, that looks pretty nice. I'm interested, but can't make it out there for a couple of weeks (work/travel). The price is steep, so it would have to be perfect. Maybe someone on this board owned this one?

The car looks great, but the website photos are uselessly small. I spoke with Keith Wermeyer (sp?) on the phone. If you want an excuse to snoop, you can use my name. ;)

If you really want bigger and better pics let me know and I'll take my camera with me. I am around that area somewhat often so as long as they let me near that car to shoot a few pics I can definitly help.

Just a general statement - Continental gets a thumbs up from the locals here. If you like the car otherwise, I'd feel pretty confident that if Continental is selling it it's a good car. But they do get top dollar for what they sell.

Just my $.03 (I'm 50% smarter than average).

Bigger pics would be GREAT, Yuri. Keith said there were some minor scrapes on the chin spoiler, and that there might be some emblems missing in the engine bay. The Continental website doesn't show much. For the money, it has to be a phenomenal car.

Also, the carpets look very dark, but again a high-res pic would tell better. Most red/tan 3x8's have lighter carpets.

I'm also looking out here in CA, and would prefer a local car, so don't rearrange your life to take pics. But if you go, tell Keith that we talked, and he'll let you near the car. I'm in Dallas next week for work, can't get up to Chicago for at least a week.

I don't mean anything bad about Continental but I'd bet my left one that it has more then 8500 miles on it. In 24 years of following 308's I have never met one that had a happy sending unit it's whole life. Never. Not that there isn't one out there somewhere. Just be careful.

Supposedly the car comes with a thick stack of service records, and Continental knows the last two owners and has serviced the car there - so they can account for the last 3K miles or so and match those to the calendar. Does that guarantee 8500 miles? No, but if it's a near-perfect original car with good compression and all systems working, I'll be inclined to believe the odometer is at least in the ballpark. And the asking price isn't stupidly high for what it is ($58K at Auto Palace for a 5500 mile 308 would require some stiff drinks to assist in swallowing... $49K here is high but a reasonable starting point.)

My concerns were more along the usual garage queen issues, but this one has been driven several thousand miles over the last few years. Hopefully the storage-induced problems were met and solved.

It is a plus, to me, that the car's owners have taken it to a Ferrari dealer for servicing. It tells me they probably did not skimp on maintenance, and weren't worried about hiding anything.

Yeah, you cannot argue if there are all of the Service Records showing Dates and Mileage all along.

Plus,Continental has an Extremely Fine,Sterling Reputation that I sincerely doubt that they would risk Tarnishing over the Mileage of a 21 Year old 308.

When I bought my,(then) 14,250 Low Mileage 1981 308 from LFSC almost 5 years ago. Same thing. They told me that these cars just sit and sit. The biggest or Most often Service required was to go over to the Persons home, and Jump Start,or Install a new Battery every Spring!

I actually found the Original Owner of my Car-an old Gentleman, retired out in Arizona. Who told me that he bought the Car,New,from Continental, but never drove it because he Restored Old Corvettes. He finally sold it in 1995 to a guy,and the car had less than 3000 Miles on it! Service Records show that the Car then had alot of work done to it. And,when I bought it in January of 2001. It had had fresh belt service, plus lots of other things done. I have not had a problem with the car in 5 Years,10K Miles.

If they did tarnish their reputation, they wouldn't hear from me when the time comes to step up, get serious and buy a 35-year old Ferrari. ;)

49k for an 84 308.....my feelings is that he would have to come down to about 43k and then that would be a reasonable starting point. For that money it better be a concourse winner. You can get into a nice 328 or even 348 for that money. Good Luck

Haven't talked price yet, but you're right, it's a bit high. I would like a concours winner, however. I'd guess as the weather gets bad, and if the car sits a bit, it would be easier to negotiate.

I slightly prefer the 308 to the 328 (though they're both great cars), worth about the same money to me assuming comparable condition. IMO, the 348 isn't worth more than the 308QV or 328, even though it's newer.

Here is another point to consider: Would you actually USE the car if you bought it? It seems that this type of car is only good for the concours and even then it has no guarantee of great success. There is an 84 308 in California with 150K+ that has beaten many on the concours field. The only big deal about it is the milage but you buy it and drive it, it will become just "another" 308 very quickly.

I have never liked those extra low milage examples because they are really not good for much at all besides conversation and auctions. You spend a lot more for something that you become a slave to (don't want to drive it and have to take it to as many shows as possible to justify the expense). That's fine with a six-figure vintage Ferrari but it just doesn't make sense with a 308 unless you just happen to have a lot of money to blow and REALLY love them.

I realize many will disagree with me here, but I like to drive mine. It has 94,000 miles on it and I love it because I can use it and use it. The real fun is in the driving, not just bragging that you have one with 8500 miles that you never drive because it only has 8500 miles. It just seems to make more sense to spend $35,000 on a really nice one and enjoy the thing on pretty weekends and at the track with the club then to spend $42,000 and leave it at home. If you just have to spend the extra $7,000 then how about buy the $35,000 one and spend the rest on a trip to Italy and tour the factory?

It's almost EXACTLY like that '85 308 that was at that other place....(Auto Pallace,I believe?) Red Carpeting,Crema Interior with Red Piping.....And that Car was ,what,$59K....? Is it too nice to get as a Driver? Well, that depends on how YOU feel about it. Sure,it is easily a Museum Piece-a Collector Car. But,hey, they have the same exact opportunity to buy it now as you do,right?

When I bought my 308. It was virtually Perfect, and had only 14K Miles. But....I thought about it this way....I waited for that Car for a Very,Very Long time. I'm not going to "Save It for the Next Guy" To Hell with the Next Guy!....THIS Car was saved FOR ME!!! And,even though I dont care about Re-Sale value, (I care about Having the Car-not Selling it!) The Car will Always get back the same Money that I paid for it.

So,Buy it,Drive it,Enjoy it,keep it nice. Win some trophies at some Shows!

Or get that other one that they have. $10K less, but still a nice Car. And,won't have to freak out every time the Odometer Flips over to the Next Ten Thousand Miles....:)

Bullfighter, if you get any closer in a deal with Continental I could go there and test drive the car for you. Since I have a QV myself I kinda know what it should feel like.

...and if I'm lucky they let me drive something else as well.

I agree with trying to find a car that has been saved. I don't want to "use it up", but if I'm going to really take care of a car I'd rather start with something that has been kept extremely well since day one.

I also see Dr. Tommy's point, but what I'm finding is that these near-perfect, low mile cars aren't that much more than a nice one with highers miles. For example, Marshall Goldman (mgmsl.com) has another red/tan '84 with 30K miles, priced within $4K of the 8500-mile car at Continental. (IMO, Auto Palace is dreaming at $58K for their Euro car). If the Marshall Goldman car was $39K and the Continental one was $49K, I would have no trouble with the 30K-mile car. But the difference there is too small. That 8500 mile car will be a low mile car for years, given typical weekend use.

Bascially, there are many mediocre 308's priced in the low $40K range. Stretching $4K-$5K for an exceptional one seems like a good move.

    My two lira...

I totally do agree,Jon. For the little bit extra that it costs for a Really Nice 308,it is well worth it. So,I am saying to you....BUY THIS CAR!!!!!...:) Before it goes! I "Hemmed and Hawed" at one really Nice 308 back when I was shopping. And,when I finally decided,it was too late...GONE!!! :(

But,ofcourse,it worked out O.K.,and I got this one. But,I know that you've been looking for awhile now,and you know what I'm talking about. Really Nice 308's are getting Harder and Harder to find. Better get it while it's Hot....:)

And,I live about 5 Minutes from Continental. If you decide to Fly up here and Check it out,(and hopefully,Drive home before the Weather up here gets Bad. Or,Of cousre, you can always ship it.) But I can let you know about Hotels close by. ETC....Whatever you need from either Airport to here. Just let me know.
