I have been actively looking for a 308QV for the last few months. Anyone familiar with this one at Cavallino Motors?
    http://www.4ferrari.com/1983_308GTS_Quattrovalvole.htm

I have also been in contact with Mike (LSU308). His appears to be a great car as well.

    Any other suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks
    Spencer

This car has been for sale for a very long time. I considered it when I was looking for my car. I think it's still in CA. There is a reason... one is that it has about 64 K miles on it. I can't help that think there must be some major issue with it. The seal problem may have been why. if it is documented and all service has been done, including clutch, I would offer 27K and see where it goes

    good luck

If you can verify the service history on this car, then it needs to be in your garage.:)

I believe these cars have been for sale for a while now. Last Fall I considered both but passed basically because of color. I love the black exterior(but also know how hard they are to keep clean) but it was the black interior that I had to pass on because it gets very hot here in the Summer and the A/C in most 308's is marginal at best. LSU308 is a GTB(NO removable top) which adds to the heat problem.
I'm glad I went with Tan interior GTS for that reason, reasonably comfortable even with the targa top on-off, in the Summer on all but the hottest days. Blk on Blk has to be like sitting in a microwave(or so I imagined, from owning other cars w/blk interiors). If heat is not a factor for you, it might be worth considering either. Both were well maintained, if I recall.

Thanks for the input. The mileage does not really concern me on either one, and Mike/LSU308 has a fully documented history. He also has numerous posts here with some of the issues he has resolved. I like the black/black (my current car has it also), but most important is that my wife likes black over red...
Has anyone actually seen the one at Cavallino in person?

I saw this car advertised back before I got mine. The ad originally said "It is an excellent driver that has been inspected at FX Performance, a full out Ferrari Independent shop. The report suggests that there may have been damage to the rear of the car at one point. Carfax is clear on this car, no accident history."

I would look very carefully for the percieved rear damage. If things check out, it might be a good car. However, I just can't help believing there is a reason this car has been for sale since February 2004.

If you have not done so already, call Martin (or PM him) at Cavallino motors. He is very honest about the condition of the cars he sells. I don't think he would push a car on you that has problems. I have not seen the car in person. Every time I see Martin he has one of the 355 challenge cars in tow. You might send Scott Saidel a PM (the carcierge). He might have seen the car in question.

I'll vouch for Martin as well.......

Black interior is no big deal, you park in shady spots and tell your gf to wear short shorts and a halter.......

Martin is a straight shooter, I've known him for 4 years and my dad bought his 348 from him this spring. The car was exactly as represented. Call him and ask him about the car, he will not feed you and BS.

    hello,
i was actually looking at the same car over a year ago; i went to see it and did a short test drive, it was at a small used car dealership near fx in west l.a. .
the car looked nice, paint is good and so are the interiors, with a good detailing it would be really sharp; from the short drive it seemed to run fine, started right way, no smoke, i saw no oil puddles underneath... the only little thing that was a bit of a hassle was a broken indicators stalk. the guy was trying to tell me that it is really an easy fix, although i suspect it would take you a while to get a replacement (none available anywhere on planet earth currently). however, there are ways to fix things and if that was the only thing wrong with the car you'd be alright!
i got very close to buying it but at the time i was also looking at a yellow one in florida and a blue one in san francisco; ended up buying the blue one, i liked it better than black, a little more unusual.
i am very surprised it hasn't sold yet, you should definitely call them and figure out why... good luck!
