Hi All, I know this topic has been discussed in other threads but want to try to bring it all together. I'm looking for an aftermarket exhaust solution for my 1984 512 BBi. So far I have found the following...

    Nouvalari - $2250
Nouvalari Stainless Steel Porsche Exhaust Systems, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Aston Martin, Bentley

    Larini: $5255
Ferrari 512 BB - Larini 'Sports' Exhaust System

    Bell: No Quote Yet
Tyres (Tires) and Exhausts in Swindon at Bells - Home Page

    X-ost: No Quote Yet
x-ost maranello srl Maranello - Home

I would love to hear feedback on these options as well as any others. Right now I think I am leaning towards the Nouvalari.

I second question I have is how concours judges looks at aftermaket exhaust on boxers. I know with my 355 it is dinged 2 points right away because it has a Capristo exhaust. I am told Boxers are treated differently as they were all modified under the grey market importation. My car will be shown so this is an issue for me as well.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Fuchs is another option, great product. You get a points deduction for non-OEM parts.

I have a quicksilver, which is a stainless copy of the old ansa sport system. Its clearly lighter and sounds better. But onb aME car you have to make serious noise before its really making adifference in the cabin. So lest say its more tune ful, and sounds great in tunnels.

Its clearly a lot lighter which is a plus. Also Boxers like to be uncorked, especialy a BBI so changing the exhaust and leaning to suit has a drastic improvement on top end power, if not ultimate power. The quiucksiler pluses are that it flows better and is much ligher as well as sounding better than stock.

But from all the exausts I have heard on Video, the bell sounded by far the best, although I do not know how loud it is. If you like to seriously drive, then my advice is an exaustr that sounds good, flows well but is not too loud, No need to attract unwarranted attention.

I've had a Bell on my BB512i for several years now and have been quite pleased. It sounds and looks great, is much lighter than stock, and cost a fraction of what some other companies charge for a Boxer exhaust.

I talked to Capristo, they had nothing off the shelf, but they would make one if I sent them my current stock exhaust. I think it would be great, but based on conversations I was probably looking in the neighborhood of more than $5k. I am a big fan of Capristo seeing other applications.

Steveirl had Bell's on two different Boxers, and along with Parker recommendeds them highly.

A local 308 GT4 owner that shares my mechanic purchased the Nouvalari exhaust after he had troubles with a Tubi fitment. At first the Nouvalari also didn't fit, but they requested his old Ansa system and sent back a nice exhaust that fit properly. Dom is a poster here, I will shoot him a message and he can weigh in himself.

I am still up in the air myself, so I will follow with interest.

After Newman's post, I gotta get that expensive to replace and heavy stock 4 can system off my BBi this year.

I am all about stock, but after putting a full custom exhaust on my 928 and experiencing how it improved every aspect of the ownership, I have no problem upgrading the exhaust on my BBi.

My BBi has had Amerispec's exhaust since it was federalized back in 1984. It does cost 2 points at concours judging, based on Reading Ferrari Concours and Cavallino Classic experience, to have something other than OEM. This is if the car has had other additions due to federalization removed like bumper extensions, side marker lights etc.

If the car has been kept 100% as federalized with ugly bumpers, side markers, exhaust etc., then there are no deductions. If the car has been converted back to European/OEM spec in some facets, bumper or side marker deletions, then retaining the exhaust required for federalization, costs 2 points.

I went through this at length with Cavallino judges and with Dick Fritz.

I have a Larini stage two single canister on my 512 BBi and I do not like it. It does not have the deep growl I would prefer. I've heard Bell systems and I think they sound better and are less expensive.

Thanks everyone for the responses, this is very helpful.

I have an Amerispec conversion where the two center cans have been removed and replaced with off the shelf Ford catalytic converters.

If the goal was authenticity, does anyone know sources for replacement OEM center cans? And would those be cost prohibitive?

could you post pictures of the Quicksilver? I did not know it was a SS copy of the ANSA one.
I have the ANSA one and it is good but starts to rust from day one.

As Wlanast stated, I had the Bell on two of my Boxers, a Bb512 and BB512i. I checked out several options, and the Bell seemed like the best bet sound wise, and I think I was right. It has a wonderful deep sound, that rises as the revs go up. It is also much more compact, with a smaller silencer body than all the other options.
It definitely sounds much better than the Larini. I never did hear Fuchs on the Boxer, but they sound great on the TR.

And, the Bell has all the inlet pipes that the other aftermarket systems lack; I believe that enhances the Bell sound over the others that block off some of the stock header outlets.

    That would be me!!

Yes, I did get a Nouvalari, and am quite happy with it. Sounds great. Glenn at Nouvalari was great to work with, and made sure that it fit.

I posted a thread about it in the 308 section:
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/379424-my-new-nouvalari-exhaust.html

I know a GT4 is not a boxer, but you can at least get an idea of how it sounds, and read the story.

    Good Luck,
    Dom

Tubi for me. It makes the BBi sounds much better and it is not invasive.

sometimes take them couple days to respond...but Bell is the nuts as far as I'm concerned...aggressive sound and reasonably priced---shipped fairly quickly and fitment was very good.

I apologize, old age has set in, birthday this Thursday puts me into the codger category. When I had my '83, I looked into installing aftermarket exhaust. the one that sounded the best, and came with the most referrals started with the letter "L".

Sorry, I can not remember the exact name.

    Anyone??

I found a Borla system for my BBI which was available for Boxers in the 80's. Removed the original over silenced mufflers, and fitted (4) 12" SS glasspacks available from the internet Hear it for yourself from the interior under full acceleration.

The Borla is for having fun on the street. I use the original 4 piece Euro system for concours.
