Hello Newman, thank you for your response - and over Easter too.

Seals Direct here in the UK has some similar foam (EPDM) profiles, also C O H Bains. Both have good websites.

    Good day TerryG,

Having spent a lot of time reviewing the various Seals Direct profiles, I can tell you quite confidently that they do not have the "correct" profile as used on the BB wheel arches. The BB wheel arch profile is an odd shaped profile...at least the ones one my car and the ones offered by Ferrari UK (which I suspect are Cicognani's part) and Cicognani (see pic for comparison of my original to the new replacement profile). Seals Direct EPDM profiles are symmetrical and primarily rectangular, etc. Will they work? I would suspect that their may be a profile that will. However, given that that "correct" ones (well as correct as is currently available) are available from Ferrari UK/Cicognani then it may make better sense to go this direction.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Considering there are gaps between the seals and wheel wells on some cars I wouldn't worry about the new seals being different. The best setup is the BBi version if you were wanting the best seal.

    Good day Paul,

No worries here about the replacement ones not being identical to the originals. Given how "well", ahem, these cars were made the seal's real life function is a bit optimistic :)

I simply posted the pics to show how the seal is rather unique and unsymmetrical... and thus might be a challenge to find it used on any other non F cars. I have to check the invoice, but I think the Ferrari UK seals (Ferrari part 50091206) were about 50 GBP for a set (left and right).

    Cheers,

    Sam

Hey Paul. Amazing job you have done on the BB. I doubt there is another BB worldwide that can compare.

Reminds me of a BB that I missed about 13 years back. Came into the same garage as my car and the owner wanted to sell for just over £20k. I still cry for not buying it!

Anyway after reading your entire thread in a day I can't wait to see the finished car. All the best.

Really beautiful Paul, will be starting overall reassembly on mine over the next few months.
A somewhat off-topic question- how are you doing the initial start up. Do you feel a need to "pre-oil"? My thought was to try to get some lubrication by cranking with no compression, fuel etc to try to achieve some oil pressure. Other engines in the past allowed driving the oil pump initially to do this, I don't see this as possible in the boxer engine. Other thoughts would be to manually pressurize via the oil pressure sensor.
    Any thoughts?

In this case as I assembled the engine I used assembly lube on the cam lobes and oil on the bearings etc. Ill spin it over without plugs until I have pressure and away we go. I think manually pressuring it isn't needed.

Did you write those hand-written numbers on the cylinder heads because they would have been there from the factory, or are they your own "assembly notes" that you'll clean off at some stage?

That is just such a nice car. Paul, when I hit lotto, I'm sending my car to you. I did just change the piece on the back of the ignition switch, starts everytime now with one turn of the key. :)
