I seem to be having a real problem getting the correct ash tray for my 85 308 GTSi. I have a great vendor, so I am guessing that there must be several different ones....(Nice way of saying they screwed up again, maybe it's me?)

When I bought the car, I opened the ashtray door, and there was no insert. I ordered one, and it didn't fit, nor did the next one. I just received from my favorite vendor the part I already have....the frame work with the balck door, and a chrome Ferrari horse.

Isn't there suppose to be something inside....where am I suppose to put spare light bulbs, change and the screws that fall out?

I have asked once before, and you guys sent pictures, Can someone take another picture fof an 85 ashtray for me so I can forward it to the vendor.

    Thanks
    Doug

Yes, it has an insert tray where you rest your Macanudo......

Darn that one with a horse sounds nice!

On my cars the horse is on the console top and the lid is plain.

They want to see a pic of my house I'll have Valeria take a detail of my tray insert, as well!

I think I posted this before, but if its the same as a Mondial I have two complete ones with the original lights inside, no horse on top though but that can be easily sorted

Mondials have a lighted ash tray..that would be nice, you could sort out the change with out having to dump it out

I took the insert out & lined the sides & bottom with black felt for change & such. The felt also helps to deaden the sound of the loose items.

sounds different..my 308 insert has metal bars across it and you cannot get your fingers thru to get the change BACK OUT!

It works like my ex wife.......

The illumination for our consoles comes from a light in the bottom of the parking brake handle..........

I have never had been in my car in the dark, it has lights?

I hope they are brighter than the turn blinker indicators in the speedo

You know, everybody b*tches about the dim lights...did you ever stop to think that they were DESIGNED that way?

If you are cruising around at 120MPH in the dark it helps to see leaping deer and such to NOT be distracted by the instrumentation!

Speed, oil pressure and water temp are secondary considerations, at that point.....

Yea it's a lil' green double ended OSRAM lamp in there...most have burned out by now and new owners do not find it......Birdman or someone did a group buy once as they are hard to find....I never got one...:(

My second car worked fine on the way home...sometimes blinks over bumps though...LOL!

Mine work, just so dim they are real hard to see, even worse with the top off.

My top has been on twice since I bought the car 6 months ago, I picked it up with the top on, once home I placed it behind the seat.

On day while repainting the garage, it started to rain, I had to put the top on so that I could push the Shelby in before it got wet, then I pushed the 308 in, wiped her down and took her top off.

I have been told by good authority that these cars dont shrink when wet, but if he is wrong, and some times when we were kids my brother was wrong, and these cars do shrink when wet, I wont fit in the Ferrari any more!

    LOL!

No he is right as my Ferrari stays outside in the rain constantly, so we can keep the good stuff in the garage..

Broken speedboat, lawn tractor, old wrecked racing karts, 25 years of Surfer magazine...

    You know...the good stuff!

Valeria put her foot down to get the Beetle Turbo S in there, so we are swapping stuff and my Ferrari will STILL be outside!

Did you call TRutlands for that insert? They have parts cars dismantled.....

...better yet I'll pull mine and send it to work with Lady Valeria and the busy lil' tin bending elves at her shop will crank you one right out...

No kidding, they patterned my muffler shroud and it was perfect!

    Doug,

    Here's a pic.......see the insert part?

Valeria looked at mine but it'd be hard to make... it's one piece stamped under heavy pressure, with cross bar riveted in.....

    Good Luck!

(Said in my best surfer dude stoner Spicolli voice) Like, DUDE, i know that car hu hu hu hu. It is like, so beyotchin' dude.

(Seriously) Yes the ashtray has two 'bars' that run lengthwise and meet at the middle section. The ashtray is for cigars... Trini, Cohi... RASS, or MAYBE if you are slumming an aged Opux X Reserva ;)

All weekend I intended to post exactly that pic for him, Steve, thanks!

I had a garage cleaning project underway and ended up with a back strain instead!

I had the ruler, a white piece of paper and the AGIP coffee cup all set up for the pic....and came back to find them all in the proper place in the kitchen!

    I got the hint!

    Thanks for your quick work!

Always glad to help. Actually it also reminded me to empty the darn thing out from time to time as A LOT of cigars have been smoked in the car. The sad part, had the ashtray rechromed last year and they did a rubbish job as she is rusting (again).

Anyone know of a good, QUALITY place that can clean this thing and rechrome it?

My inner bars are straight across, no "drooping" in the middle.....

Probably not chrome, mine is more like galvanized sheet metal stamping....

Rutlands had sent a 2nd tray that didn't fit, the first was very different, the second was really close but didt fit what I considered right. They sent the 85 frame that the tray came out of and it fit, so I tried the ashtray again in the car, and with effort....it works. I was mistaken, again, I was thinking these were production line cars with interchangeable parts.....my bad

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not LOL at you as you are soooo right. It seems each 308 was hand built and they just took a group of parts to find the one(s) that kinda fit right. As an example, it seems if you replace the fiberglass front aero, each car can vary by as much as an inch for proper fittment. Went through a few units to find one that fit right without major surgery.

I see where my front air dam has had a technical mis-calculation, probably near a speed bump. It was repaired, but not blocked out too my satisfaction.
I am guessing this is common to damage on 308's Couldn't they have made it out of Rubber like Ford did on the Mustang Cobra ll. My wife could ram anything with it, and that rubber front spoiler survived real well!
